My Self-Summary

Holy crap has this thing been left sitting idle forever. It used to say:

"I'm a dork/geek. Let's get that out of the way first. And I'm not saying that to earn points here. I came of age before those terms became "cool"; back when it was still something you had to come to terms with. I say this as a warning. I like my video games, occasionally for long stretches at a time. I can geek out on stupid conversations from comic books to theoretical physics (though I'm am, disappointingly, quite a bit less educated here than I would like). That being said, I do like to think I also keep myself grounded in the everyday world to offset most of the negatives associated with those aspects of my personality. Basically, I (typically) know how and when to keep it in check."

I have since come to realize that my level of geek is WAY trumped by any true geek out there. So, the above warning basically applies to those who don't have any tendencies what-so-ever. I guess I'm more of a go between. Something of a translator between the dork and the norm I guess. *shrug*

I act with a local classical theatre company which takes up a great deal of my time leaving little for an outside social life. In order to facilitate my abilities to waste more of my life on meaningless pursuits, I am attempting to find theatre work that will supplant my current rent paying job.

Hell, trying to summarize yourself never works. Let's go with who I wish I were. :) The voice of Alan Rickman, the looks and aura of Johnny Depp (those of us that were there before Pirates of the Caribbean need to stand up for our icon, damnit...well, except for 21 Jump Street. We can all pretend that never happened. *smirk*), the acting talents of William H. Macy, the style and suavity of Bogie's Ric...what? I can't include fictional characters?

Cynical Optimist Misanthropic humanitarian Antagonistic do-gooder & Low brow bon vivant.

God made mud. God got lonesome. So God said to some of the mud, "Sit up!" "See all I've made," said God, "the hills, the sea, the sky, the stars." And I was some of the mud that got to sit up and look around. Lucky me, lucky mud. I, mud, sat up and saw what a nice job God had done. Nice going, God.

What I’m doing with my life

Spending my days in the soul sucking business of insurance and my evenings replenishing it at the theatre. What equates to essentially two full time jobs does not leave time for much of anything else, but we're working on making that second one pay well enough we can forgo the first.......and stop referring to ourselves in the third person.

I’m really good at

Jack of all trades, master of none?

The first things people usually notice about me

It's probably not the first thing you'll notice since I tend to be rather reserved when I first meet people, but, rest assured, that will end and you will soon discover I can be quite loud. It's not an intentional thing and I don't know where or how it originated, but it has served me well on stage even if it has had its exponents in the work-a-day world.

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

(a)books: While I do like to read, I don't have much time to do so outside of my current script and hence I haven't really developed a list of "favorites" in this category. That being said, I enjoyed The Dark Tower series, I thought House Of Leaves was quite good, but was held back from true greatness by the same device that made it so good. A Brief History Of Time was a facinating read. In the middle of Rant: An Oral Biography of Buster Casey. It took a few chapters for me to start getting into it, but I'm really beginning to dig it. Sandman. If you understand, that's all I need say about that one.

(b)movies: Too many to list, but a sampling - Pulp Fiction, Fight Club, Casablanca, The Crow, High Fidelity, The Lion in Winter, Lost in Translation, The Nightmare Before Christmas, Rushmore, Shallow Grave...okay, I'm going to stop here because I could go on for quite some time.

(c)music: Once again, could probably list too many here, so I just stick with a few in no particular order - Concrete Blonde, Bjrk, Leonard Cohen, Aerosmith, Nick Cave, Johnny Cash, The Sisters of Mercy, Nine Inch Nails...I try to be open...for the most part. :)

(d)foods: What don't I like? I'm always up for a gastronomical experiment. If we're talking ethnicities, I'd have to say that at this point in time, Korean is probably my favorite.

The six things I could never do without

1) My friends. It took us quite awhile to get where we are and I'm thankful for each of them.

2) 4 walls to escape said friends. While I adore them, I do need my solitary time too. I'll let you decide who gets placed in the walls, them or me. :)

3) the stage. As cheesy and pretentious as that sounds. I've tried to go without it and it just didn't work. Compulsion? Obsession? Be it what it may, it's my addiction and I love it. :)

4) I've never been good at these. I was never able to fill out 5 of these much less 6. I'm assuming we're looking for more interesting things than food/shelter/water here, so this will have to be a place holder until I think of more.

I spend a lot of time thinking about

Where I'm going to find my next theatre job (currently waiting to hear back from the Cincinnati Shakespeare Festival ...christ it HAS been awhile since this was updated) and barring that, how best to get out of my current job.

On a typical Friday night I am

In rehearsal or performance. On the rare occasion (usually a couple months in the summer and winter) that I'm not preoccupied there, possibly catching a movie with friends or vegetating at home.

The most private thing I’m willing to admit here

The things I consider "private" are kept that way for a reason. You think I'm just going to type it out here because I've been given the online equivalent of a "dare"? Come now. You'll have to be slyer than that.

You should message me if

You can laugh at the bad movies as well as appreciating the good ones.

You don't mind someone whose schedule is so sporadic that you might not hear from them at weeks at a time....okay, I think I've gotten better with this one.

You're bored at home on a tuesday night and need a way to kill three minutes?

You're on your third martini and have gotten a wild hair up your ass.

I don't know. You're the one doing it. Why don't you tell me?
