My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
I’m Chris. I am a mechanical engineer, sometime photographer, and intermittent runner.

We can also add "wannabe adult" to that list. I spend quite a bit of time worrying that somebody is going to notice that I have infiltrated the institution of adulthood, and that they’re going to kick me out and rescind my privileges.
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
Mostly working to afford my considerable aspirations. Awkwardly, my peers do not seem forthcoming with a desire to trek across South America, spend a fortnight cycling in Cuba, or to fly to China in the hopes of getting a visa from the North Korean embassy.

None of these adventures feel like they would be their most awesome if I travelled alone, so if any of them appeal to you, or you have your own ideas, you should probably mention it.
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
Rolling up my sleeves, losing things that I put in a specific place (so that I wouldn't lose them), accidentally waving at people who weren't waving at me, and saying goodbye to people and then awkwardly having to walk to the same station with them afterwards.

I also make a really great squash or badminton partner/opponent, because I never win.
The first things people usually notice about me
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
The first thing people notice about me is my dishevelled appearance. People eventually get used to it. I have been trying to smarten myself up, but I still find ironing shirts to be a useless endeavour. I'm managing to cut a sharper silhouette than I ever did in the past, but am still a little bedraggled.

I have also been told I smell nice, on more than one occasion; though since I started swimming every morning, I've noticed the smell of chlorine getting into everything I own.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Help your potential matches find common interests.
A favourite book is difficult, as I read quite a lot, but two books I can describe as having enjoyed are “Things the Grandchildren should know” by Mark Oliver Everett, and “Slightly Out of Focus” which is the autobiography of one of my favourite photographers, Robert Capa. Recently, I have been working my way through the penguin modern classics list, but that is on pause whilst I read Amy Poehler's biography, "Yes Please".

Movies is much easier, though by choosing a Kubrick film as my favourite, I may be walking into some tragic cliche. Dr Strangelove is my clear favourite because it’s superb in every way. It’s funny, dark, features stellar acting, and has themes and messages that’re still important lessons even now that the cold war with Russia have supposedly ended. It’s also supreme evidence of Kubrick’s near-OCD level of attention to detail, which I do geek out over a little bit each and every time I watch it.

TV shows I watch(ed) – How I Met Your Mother, House, Peep Show, Spaced, Flight Of The Conchords, Dr Who, Sherlock, and at least for the first season, Girls on HBO.

Music is another easy one, as I enjoy nearly everything and have very few favourites. However, I’m very strongly attached to the favourites I have. As far as I am concerned, EELS are the best band ever for consistently exciting musical output, and The Magnetic Fields “69 Love Songs” is the best album ever, because it’s just so diverse, and yet so complete.

Finally, food – Chicken & Rice, with a Honey & Mustard sauce, is impossibly delicious. I am also a big fan of Mexican food, and Indian curries, preferably each as authentic as possible. Basically, rice is a big part of my diet.
You should message me if
Offer a few tips to help matches win you over.
You think you're effing funny.
You have excellent book recommendations.
You want to go hiking.
You can correct my swimming technique. At some point I've forgotten how breathing works, and repeatedly holding your breath for each length is hard.
You want to hear a story of a time I shit myself. Everyone's human, innit.
