My self-summary
I care greatly about food, writing, performing, sustainability, and good tv. I also love questionable tv like Jersey Shore, Real Housewives (NJ and Atlanta!), and Duck Dynasty. I love being weird and silly and gross, but I have a strong political foundation to me, so if you think my commitment to feminism makes me a "feminazi" or fascist, please get educated and get back to me later. And if you think being antiracist makes me a bleeding liberal or some such nonsense, see above.
What I’m doing with my life
Relocated to the Bay Area about a year ago. Figuring out the big stuff like job and social circles, but also the small things like finding a good international grocer, deciding which open mics to hit up, practicing biking, and cementing my running route. I'm also all about hip hop classes, but I admit it doesn't come as naturally as other forms.
I’m really good at

making bad puns!
peeing in the woods
talking bob dylan
communicating/letting it all out
leading cheers at protests
The first things people usually notice about me
me writing in a notebook
bigass curls
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
music: Bob Dylan, Gnarls Barkley/Cee Lo Green, Nina Simone, Lauryn Hill and the Fugees, Jack White and the White Stripes, Muddy Waters, Joni Mitchell, Fiona Apple, The Gossip, Ray Charles, Aretha Franklin, Ben Harper, Kanye, Drake, Sheryl Crow, Tracy Chapman, The Wellesley College Blue Notes
(It's generally a turnoff when I see people with music/book/film tastes that are all white men.)

books: Ordinary People, Autobiography of Malcolm X, The Brief Wonderous Life of Oscar Wao, This Is How You Lose Her, The Toughest Indian in the World, The Girl's Guide to Hunting and Fishing, Middlesex, The Virgin Suicides (but NOT The Marriage Plot, we can talk about it), Beloved, Where the God of Love Hangs Out, Aloud: Poems from the Nuyorican Poetry Cafe, Love's Executioner, Cloud Atlas, Wolf Hall and Bring Up the Bodies (apparently I love Thomas Cromwell)

plays: M. Butterfly, Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, The Crucible, A Streetcar Named Desire, August: Osage County, Passing Strange, In the Heights

TV: arrested development, Glee, the sopranos, six feet under, the real l word, cooking channel and food network, jersey shore, double divas (i think this is on lifetime? oh god it's amazing: two atlanta women who own a lingerie shop, very feminist, body and sex positive, hilarious), duck dynasty, long island medium

food: Italian food is my go-to, for cooking and eating. While I am not Italian, I lived there for 3 months and it is officially my comfort food. Eggs of all sorts. Anything with tzatziki. Things cooked by Ina Garten and Jamie Oliver and Bobby Flay, key lime pie and generally anything with a graham cracker crust.
Also, if you haven't tried ajvar/pipiritsa, get on that!
The six things I could never do without
a notebook/writing utensil
the kitchen
the classroom (whatever its form)
my dog, Moxie (who has sadly been left behind with my mom in NYC, so I guess I can do without him, but believe me it's rough/ruff)
I spend a lot of time thinking about
when I'll next be able to write, how to make it to the nearest warm weather, wow that's a cute dog, can I be femme if I don't shave my legs, yo is this racist?
There really needs to be more diversity in the "gender" and "sexual orientation" part of OKC. Well, I don't think about this a LOT but now that I'm back on the site, I'm going to be thinking of it every time I sign on!
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I kind of love Joel Osteen.
You should message me if
you want to get to know me better!

I'm in the market for new friends just as much as romantic endeavors. Reach out for either reason. (A definite turn off is a one line message like "hey sexy" or "nice smile." If this is your style, probs best to try someone else).
