My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
Above average.

What you're looking at here is a Daniel Jackson-esque warrior-scholar-geek (humble, no?). At my core I'm a scientist and explorer. I love learning about how just about anything works. Astronomy, Biology, Chemistry, Cosmology, Etymology, Computation, Photography, Atomic force microscopy, molecular nanotechnology, mythology, philosophy; the list is nearly endless. Suffice it to say that I take an interest in everything. Even though exploring takes much mystery out of the world it replaces it with endless amounts of wonderment. I find everything becomes more beautiful and amazing with deeper understanding.

While I do occasionally find myself reading a paper on rotational frame dragging (which I may or may not understand on some level), I spend at least as much time relaxing and listening to music, reading, or chilling out watching some quality TV sans commercials (Thank you The Pirate Bay, EZTV), or I might just be reviewing my NAT and firewall rules/logs.

Okay, fair point; maybe "geek" was too generous. Nerd might be more appropriate.

I'm somewhat well rounded. In addition to the nerdliness above, I train in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and climb at the rock gym alternating days (sometimes the same day). I also enjoy hiking 5-10 miles on the jeep trail at the Lafayette reservoir when weather and my knees permit. I’m also flirting with beginning an exploration of skydiving this summer. I went last year and it was THE BEST THING I’VE EVER DONE. I even go out with my supremely awesome friends exploring new restaurants, bars, and clubs.

What I'm looking for is a companion on this crazy one way trip. I want someone who can't wait to tell me about the amazing something they just learned. I want someone who will give me that knowing look that says "this is absurd, terrifying, and hilarious" just before I (or better yet we) jump out of a perfectly good airplane. I want someone who appreciates I just ordered a tee-shirt that says "I fucking love cuddling". If you love Sci-fi and can reboot your own computer that's a plus, otherwise you will learn.
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
Right now I’m a work in progress and I like that. It certainly seems better than the alternative. A couple years ago I’d have to tell you I was a computer gaming nerd with an aversion to sunlight. These days it’s quite different. Now I'm looking to get the most I can out of life.

I have an affinity and a knack for just about all things I.T. and I’ve parlayed that skill into a pretty good job. I work for a rather large company that you’ve almost certainly done business with if you’re over 21 (5 cent sale, anyone?). My job seems to afford me a good amount of free time. I work on the weekends but I do so remotely (just need my laptop and a cell phone) so I'm really only in the office 3 days a week.
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
Growing the softest hair you'll ever run your fingers through. It's a gift. Sustaining conversations for hours on end face to face or on the phone (I love texting but there is so little feedback it can be challenging to keep it going). The thing I’m probably best at is following through on decisions I’ve made.
The first things people usually notice about me
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
I’d say physically it would be the streak of white hair by my right ear. In terms of brains: I’ve got em.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Help your potential matches find common interests.
Books and I have a very on again off again relationship. It’s not that I don’t enjoy reading, it’s that I enjoy it too much. If I like a particular book I’ll often read everything the author has published. This leads directly to profound sleep deprivation and a dead battery in my Kindle.

Some favorite movies would include Avatar, Thor, Contact, The Bourne movies, Zoolander, Underworld, Apollo 13, Mr. & Mrs. Smith, Pulp Fiction, Serenity, Clerks, Tremors, 21, Back to the Future, Superbad, Knocked Up, The Count of Monte Cristo, Idiocracy, Predator, Resident Evil, Seven Pounds... and many more.

Doctor Who! Battlestar Galactica, House, The IT Crowd, Farscape, Mad Men, Dexter, Mythbusters, The Walking Dead, Stargate (all 3 series), Babylon 5, 24 (the first few seasons anyway), Firefly, Smallville, Survivor, The Tudors, The Wire, Andromeda, Futurama.

On the music front I’m all over the place. I haven't’ spent most of my life to this point seeking out new music but that just means more fun now. Just scrolling through my Spotify playlists some favorites would seem to include Justice, Shakira, Lenny Kravitz, Tom Petty, U2, Billy Joel, Audioslave, The Asteroids Galaxy Tour, Gorillaz, Sublime, Matchbox Twenty, Live, Dave Matthews Band, Nirvana, Smashing Pumpkins, Soundgarden, Santana, Goo Goo Dolls, 311, Live, Cake, The Offspring, Moby, Daft Punk, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Mariah Carey, Amanda Blank, Dragonette, Fun, Justice. A musician friend of mine pointed out that I focus solely on the vocalist and I agree. The human voice is the most captivating of musical instruments.

Food? Yes please; sushi if you have it!
The six things I could never do without
Think outside the box. Sometimes the little things can say a lot.
The Internets If there is a more powerful, useful, or fun tool I have yet to become aware of it.
My friends I’m very discriminating in whom I call friend. You can be assured they’re all awesome people. I have many acquaintances who are good folks but have not yet qualified as fully awesome.
Adventure More and more I find myself looking for something to do and I feel like I’ve only just begun. New music, locations, or activities.
Smart Girls Talk nerdy to me. Alternatively just be passionate about something not completely antithetical to my interests.
Sushi Self explanatory.
Sonic Screwdriver You understand this or you do not.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
The amazing time we live in. We are riding the crest of an unprecedented and fully unappreciated wave of new and amazing technologies. Not only in consumer electronic gadgetry but in biomedical/genetics, energy, robotics, materials, and artificial intelligence... it’s amazing.

We (humanity) build increasingly exquisite instruments to peer the edge of our visible universe and back in time to see the first stars and the formation of galaxies when the entire universe was new. We look down tens of orders of magnitude where we are learning how to observe and manipulate atoms, the fundamental building blocks of which all things are made. I’m immensely grateful that I’m alive to see it all and able to understand and appreciate so much of it.

What can I have for dinner that I will like but that I'm not sick of eating?
On a typical Friday night I am
Netflix and takeout, or getting your party on — how do you let loose?
… wishing I didn’t have to work at 7am on Saturday morning. Sometimes I'm eating dinner with friends. Sometimes I'm at home streaming on Netflix. Often sleep must be sacrificed in favor of a night out on the town.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
Sometimes I will stand in front of a mirror and make funny faces until I start laughing.
On a more serious note I’d say that I haven’t done a great deal of dating. You probably shouldn’t expect me to wine you, dine you, and sweep you off your feet in particularly short order; I will instead seduce you with my awkwardness.
