I am an exposed root, brambles, and a thicket.

My Self-Summary

Kids and pets seem to like me.

Am a cyclist, mostly. Haven't owned a car in six years.

Like possibilities, contingencies, striving, and understanding.

Don't like things or people that are excessively rigid.

Spend a lot of time tinkering on little creative projects.

It would be great to meet a guy to start a brain trust with.

What I’m doing with my life

Making things, working with kids, working on making things for kids, working with kids on making things.

I’m really good at

Arts & crafts, making friends, bossing little children around, scratching pets behind the ears, and talking about the quality of Los Angeles roads.

The first things people usually notice about me

Someone told me the other day that I'm Anti-LA. Not that I complain about LA, but that I'm just UnLA. Whatever that means. What can I say? I really like the weather.

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

Music: Passion Pit's new album makes me want to kick up my heels. If Memory Tape's single "Bicycle" is any indicator, I think their new album may be a new favorite. School of Seven Bells continues to grow on me (started only liking 2 tracks, but then...). Still have not worn out the new Neko Case album from February. Did I mention I'm an NPR junky? I like freebasing podcasts.

Reading: Finished Steve Martin's memoir, "Born Standing Up" and loved it -- deals humorously and poignantly with his 10-year process of developing the now famous stand-up routine. The next book I'm reading is a cook book, "The America's Test Kitchen Family Cookbook". Made a fantastic beef stew from there last night. Did I say "reading"? I meant "eating".

Movies: Saw "Up" and it was one helluva film experience -- I laughed, I cried. Got a Futurama movie in Netflix "Bender's Big Score" that I've watched three times (I'm abnormally attracted to things that repeat I'm abnormally attracted to things that repeat). Finally got around to watching "Synecdoche, New York" and I'm glad I did. The film deserves a second viewing, but only after it stops playing badminton with my brain.

The six things I could never do without

Pencil, paper, and four more things.

I spend a lot of time thinking about

Thinking. And thinking about thinking about thinking.

On a typical Friday night I am

Going out to a movie, getting wound up with my friends, or staying in. Usually staying in.

The most private thing I’m willing to admit here

Is probably about someone else.
