My self-summary

Alex did such a good job talking me up on another site, I thought I'd use that profile here too:

"Dan is a bunch of people to me. Let me introduce them!

As my neighbour, Dan delivers hospitality in spades. You can take the tea, tv and chocolate as read. Where Dan stands out is his stunning culinary skills. Drawing on Asian techniques he picked up on his travels, he cooks a dream Thai meal from scratch but is just as happy rustling up an arrabiata, risotto, or what have you. Mmmm.

As an old, old friend, we've got a lot of history. Yet I'd struggle to deliver a point where Dan let someone down or treated them in any way other than they'd like to be treated - with good humour, hospitality and interest. And he wears his fierce intelligence with amiable understatement. He's a good 'un, pure and simple.

As a spoke in my social wheel, Dan brings the fun. He's always got something going on here, there, everywhere: from clubbing to gigs, cinema or quiet drinks out, or a whirlwind trip abroad. He's one of those people happy to stay in but great company out too - a social Swiss Army Knife, I reckon.

I'd like to say "as a musical peer", but I won't kid myself. Dan is an amazing, creative and committed musician in his own right, and a devotee to music in all its forms (seriously, from acoustic to rave to jazz to ...). Playing out, composing, jamming or recommending, this nestles at his core.

Dan keeps you well fed, takes you out and around, serenades, entertains in, provokes, inspires, and enters every encounter assuming that you are, like him, smart, passionate, discerning and fun. And he's 2 sexxy. Hurry up, before I bag him!"

So thanks Alex - you're too kind (all that cooking, chocolate and tea seems to be paying off!). And you've totally managed to gloss over my weak points: enthusiasm for proper punctuation, herbal tea and bemoaning the lack of eligible women (yes, there are plenty of superficially attractive ladies out there, but where are all the interesting and intelligent ones?). Ah well, luckily we managed to keep all that stuff quiet…

If you've got this far, you're either: interested (thanks Alex!); curious about what would be an unnecessarily elaborate fiction of pretending to have a friend write your profile; and/or you just dig schizos with imaginary friends. Either way, none of this wooing nonsense - drop me an e-mail!

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

Movies: Anything with a twist, brains or a heart (or something alternative, quirky, or just plain fun, or funny, or simply awesome). E.g. Fight Club, Adaptation, The Station Agent, Alien, Dr Strangelove, 2001: Space Odyssey; Mulholland Drive; Aliens, Pi, Lost Highway, Hero, The Hours, Sin City, Withnail & I, etc.

Music: Anything that flicks my switch. From jazz to rock, classical to mashcore, dnb to ambient, old skool to trip hop ... etc, etc. E.g. Jeff Buckley, Squarepusher, Pierre Bensusan, Michael Hedges, Orbital, DJ Shitmat, Nick Drake, Global Communications, Toumani Diabate, The Jimmy Chamberlin Complex, Portico Quartet, Ravel, DJ Shadow, Andy McKee, Remark, Debussy, Portishead, Steve Reich, DJ Rupture, EST, Smashing Pumpkins, The Roots, Acen, Pink Floyd, Jason Rebello, Prodigy, Miles Davis, Lamb, Tortoise, Thomas Tallis, Charlie Byrd, Manic Street Preachers, Al Gromer Khan, oh - and we all love shanks & bigfoot's "sweet like chocolate", don't we...???

Food: I love all food (struggling to think of things I wont eat), but have a particular weakness for Asian cooking, especially Thai.

On a typical Friday night I am

There's such a thing as typical Friday night? Anything from: food and drinks with friends (in or out); at a gig or occasionally a club/rave; chilling at home, perhaps playing guitar, listening to music, cooking and watching a movie...
