I am affectionate, honest, and energetic.

My Self-Summary

I'm an optimistic guy who's big on dry humor, having fun, and mutual respect. I grew up all over the place, thanks to my dad's old Army job, so I've never really set down roots anywhere. That said, two and a half years of living in SF later, I'm still in love with the city. I don't do a whole lot of painting the town red, but I love just picking a direction and walking, exploring new neighborhoods, trying out new restaurants... Just enjoying the town and all it has to offer.

I've never been very good at mingling in big party situations, and the bar/club scene isn't really my style. I'm a lot better with small groups and one-on-one stuff -- I love talking to new folks, but I'm also always up for sitting around and finding out something new about the people I'm already close to. I'm a bit of a media junkie -- movies, books, art, music, everything. I like to cook and love to eat.

These days, I'm trying to stay motivated to get out of the house (which can be hard, between work and spending time with my roommates) for long enough to meet new people. Loving your home life and work is awesome, but I don't want to become a total hermit here.

What I’m doing with my life

I work from home as a translator (which sounds intellectual until you find out I'm translating video games), with as much illustration and graphic design work on the side as I can find. I really enjoy both kinds of work, but the former definitely takes up the bulk of my time these days.

I’m really good at

I'm always working on my art and language skills, but I'm proud of the work I do. I'm also good at staying positive and rational in stressful situations -- I'm the most even-tempered guy I know.

I'm also really good at panicking when random strangers hit on me. As it turns out, I need to get to know somebody before I'm attracted to them.

The first things people usually notice about me

The height maybe? A friend of a friend once said I had "really amazing energy." I remember thinking that was a nifty compliment, although the laid-back SF life is doing its best to make me soft.

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

a) Almost Like Being In Love - Steve Kluger; Neuromancer - William Gibson; Me Talk Pretty One Day - Dave Sedaris; 12 Kingdoms series - Ono Fuyumi; Covering - Kenji Yoshino

b) the Usual Suspects, Amelie, Clueless, After Life, Ping Pong, Saved!, animation from all over

c) Youth Group, Van Morrison, Utada Hikaru, Tiromancino, Supercar, Sufjan Stevens, Stars, the Slip, Simon and Garfunkel, RJD2, Rilo Kiley, Ratatat, Neko Case, the National, Matt Pond PA, the Magnetic Fields, M83, Lovage, the Go! Team, the Decemberists, Death Cab, Daft Punk, Bump of Chicken, Broken Social Scene, Ben Folds, the Basement Jaxx, the Ark

d) Everything! Japanese, Chinese, Greasy-Spoon Diner food, Italian, French, Indian, Thai, you name it. Anything that fits in my mouth. Also love to cook.

The six things I could never do without

Music, my computer (doubles as my studio), my family, good food, close friends, and a comfy bed.

I spend a lot of time thinking about

Art and music, my friends, social and political issues, the next meal.

On a typical Friday night I am

At some friends' house chilling out, watching a movie, playing some games and cooking. Going out to dance is a blast, but I could never make it my typical Friday night.

The most private thing I’m willing to admit here

That I'm comfortable being a bit on the geeky side. You should be comfortable with who you are, too.

You should message me if

You want to talk! If you're interested in art, cooking, movies, comics, games, nature, photography, people, animals, whatever. Tell me what you're passionate about.
