I'm pretty quiet around people I don't know-- actually, I tend to be quieter than most people in general-- but once people get to know me, I open up more, and become, well, I guess, "more interesting." My personality is basically this: I'm very cynical, and sarcastic, all the while maintaining a contradictory idealism and naivety about some things. I'm very liberal, creative, intelligent, and often very random. I consider music to be vital to life, and often find myself moved by it-- most often and noticeably with romantic composers like Rachmaninoff or Berlioz and modern composers like Gershwin or Copland. (And I love various and sundry genres of music.) Also, I am very into poetry- I always carry a notebook around with me so I can immediately write things down if I get inspired, and I have many many books of poetry. I tend to be really attracted to guys who can have serious intellectual and philosophical discussions.

I just graduated from law school (I specialized in public interest law -- specifically in the area of civil liberties) and I'm currently preparing to take the Bar Exam in July.

I'm hoping to pass the Bar, get a job working on civil rights law, and to someday get some of my writing- be it literary or musical- published.

How quiet I seem to be. I guess it just confuses or freaks out some people...

(a)Harry Potter, Exodus (Leon Uris), The Yiddish Policeman's Union, Everything is Illuminated, Good Omens, almost anything by Vonnegut (my favorite Vonnegut novel I've read so far is "Bluebeard," though "Slaughterhouse-Five" is a very close second), and about a million books of poetry -- some of my favorite poets in no particular order include Allen Ginsberg, Yusef Komunyakaa, T.S. Eliot, W.B. Yeats, Sylvia Plath, Frank O'Hara, Gwendolyn Brooks, W.H. Auden, Terrance Hayes, June Jordan, Edna St. Vincent Millay, Audre Lorde, etc.

(b)Scott Pilgrim vs The World, LotR, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Dogma, Empire Records, Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil, I Heart Huckabees, Good Night and Good Luck, Reefer Madness: The Movie Musical, Young Frankenstein, Pan's Labyrinth...

I am kind of picky when it comes to movies; most romantic comedies/chick flicks of any kind bore me (when I can predict the plot of a movie in the first five minutes, there's a problem!) and I don't enjoy stupid or physical humor (with rare exceptions). Movies that are intelligent and/or have interesting plots or even interesting twists of common plots are what impress me.

(c)Extremely Ecclectic: Beatles, Ella Fitzgerald, Gershwin,Romantic Composers, Punk, Indie, Musicals, etc. I'm not a huge fan of country music, although a couple of my favorite artists (such as Neko Case and Jolie Holland) definitely walk the line between indie and folk/country. Though I really don't like a lot of mainstream rap or hip-hop (exceptions being Outkast, a few songs of the Black Eyed Peas, and a couple other artists), I actually am interested in possibly finding underground artists that are more poetic and have a message other than violence and objectification of women.

(d)Shrimp, sushi, Pad Thai, Italian food
