I am idealistic, intellectual, and adventure-seeking.

My Self-Summary

I'm a old-fashioned girl with new-fangled ideas. I'm from New England, where everything is old and tradition-steeped, and I love it- but I believe in the inherent equal worth of every human (race, gender, faith, and sexual orientation notwithstanding) and I'm always working on ways to get the world to reflect those values of mine. I'm all about integrity, honesty, and loyalty- can't do without them. On a lighter note, I love music (I sing and play the guitar), literature, fall, the beach, and now the desert! Oh, and scandal of scandals here in Arizona- I'm a hippy-dippy vegetarian!

What I’m doing with my life

I'm a fourth grade teacher, a job which I love but I know won't last- I'm too much of a rabble-rousing radical revolutionary to stay in the classroom for long. The teacher in me, however, finds it impossible to avoid pointing out that alliterative sentence :).

I’m really good at

Scrabble. Losing my keys in my purse. Finding ludicrous books at used book stores. Four-square. Giving relationship advice that I wouldn't follow myself, despite the fact that it's good. Innuendo. Persuading people to join me on not foolhardy, but not entirely wise adventures. Appearing to know more about a topic than I do. Mixing drinks. Laughing- really laughing, not giggling, tittering, or any other lame substitute. Walking in outrageous heels. Ranting about women who submit to patriarchy, while walking in outrageous heels. Otherwise avoiding hypocrisy.

The first things people usually notice about me

I find life to be delightfully absurd, and I'm always laughing at the strange world we live in.

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

Books: Ishmael, by Daniel Quinn.

Also, The Alchemist, A Tale of Two Cities, Subliminal Seduction (hooray! paranoid pop psychology!), Alcott, Shakespeare, Kingsolver, and (guilty pleasure) Christie.

Movies: Gone With the Wind, the old low-budget Hitchhiker's Guide mini series (so many points to anyone who knows and loves that!), Indochine, It's a Wonderful Life, Clue, What the Bleep Do We Know?

Music: At the moment, Vertical Horizon's There and Back Again album. In general: Aerosmith, Zeppelin, Heart, Eagles, Floyd, Allman Brothers, Chili Peppers, Josh Groban, Norah Jones, Eva Cassidy, Ella Fitzgerald, James Taylor, Joni Mitchell, Lara Fabian, Jack Johnson, Goo Goo Dolls, Great Big Sea, Indigo Girls, Iron and Wine, Queen, Santana... to name a few.

Food: Things that can't move on their own. Most notably avocado, brie, really good crisp apples, and the cheesiest pizza this city has to offer.

The six things I could never do without

Family, friends, hope for a better world, the ocean, music, and my right to dissent.

I spend a lot of time thinking about

How to fix the big old mess into which we humans have gotten ourselves. Also, these days, how to convince 28 monkeys to write poems and solve word problems.

On a typical Friday night I am

Out with a friend, talking to whoever crosses our path...

Or- I'll admit it- cleaning my apartment and talking on the phone, since I don't have time for those things during the week...

The most private thing I’m willing to admit here

I'm afraid of almost nothing- except rats and sharks. Absolutely no rational explanation for either.

You should message me if

You're a truly intelligent, thoughtful individual with integrity and a sense of adventure :).
