My Notes edit
My self-summary
I am looking for someone with a full life with hobbies and friends. I especially like nerdy guys, or anyone that loves life. Sense of humor, flexible, smart but kind... that describes me and hopefully, you!
What I do to relax and live life: reading, music, knitting, baking and cooking, DVDs and movies, casual gatherings with friends and family. I love peace and quiet and value time alone (vs. lonely). I live a spiritual life but am not into structured religion, which for me is God in a box. I am not into silliness either and even though some would look at my life and label me a new-ager, I am not.
I believe in and live the principles of subtle energy, vibration, math, oneness and connection that isn't about creator or God or rigid morals. I love to study symbolism and psychology and because we are (most are) creatures of habit and pattern, tools like Tarot or other divination methods (used correctly) are a way to access deeper layers of meaning. Psychology, symbolism, pattern - it's all there.
What I'm doing with my life
I'm really good at
I am really good at making turkey stoop (between a soup and a stew). I love cooking, and can make a few things really well. I also like to experiment and personalize recipes. I'm good at some baking and can make a fabulous banana cake with penuche frosting.
I am really good at really listening to people. I am good at being the kind of person who can tell you the truth, but only when you ask. I am a skilled teacher of empowerment principles vs. pumping people up in a shallow way. I love to help people develop their best selves and teach them to be kind yet firm in their beliefs.
I am really good at seeing all points to any situation. That makes it hard for me to answer all the questions on the tests parts of this site. For most situations my answer will be "well, that depends on the situation".
The first thing(s) people usually notice about me
Also... have a nice loving tone in your head when you read this, so as not to misunderstand and think I am putting myself down... if you see me from behind, that is what you will notice - my behind. It's big. I am a round, comfy person. I am okay with it most times. I wish I was a smaller round person though, especially since it makes a difference with most people.
My favorite books, movies, music, and food
My all-time favorites are the Dune Series and the Lord of the Rings LOTR Trilogy. I haven't re-read the Hobbit as much. Most any sci-fi and some fantasy, some of my favorite authors are Octavia Butler, Frank Herbert, Robert Heinlein, Robert Silverberg, Stephen Donaldson, Alice Hoffman, Margaret Atwood, Marge Piercy, Ursula LeGuin. Once I find a good book from a new (to me) author I try to track down and read all that they have published.
Movies: You've Got Mail, LOTR, Defending Your Life, Best in Show, Harry Potter Movies, The Matrix 1 & 2 (3 was -eh-), Pride and Prejudice (A&E mini-series version of course, not that ghastly movie remake), Sense and Sensibility. I love the imagery and plot of The Fountain. And any movie that springs from a Phillip K. Dick story. I like stories about cataclysm and turmoil (beating unbeatable odds and such) but nothing with random over the top violence=exploding heads.
Music: Most anything Folksy, some bluegrass, Alison Krauss and almost all singer-songwriter types. Most 70s (Fleetwood Mac, Clapton, Cat Stevens, Joni Mitchell), Dave Matthews Band (group and the person). Ambient music. I used to listen to and liked Enya but now find her music somewhat annoying. I love most artists on the Narada Label and like spiritual artists like Deva Premal, Jai Uttal and all types of chant music, even Gregorian. Guitar and strings (esp. viola, cello and sitar) deep, mellow woodwinds, sad/haunting music and soothing orchestral and rock if there is good guitar or vocals. I will listen to just about anything and am open to hearing your favorites.
Food: Ethnic and hot/spicy of any kind. I love Eastern Indian food, Thai, Vietnamese, etc. Comforting, homey food is good too. Don't eat a lot of red meat anymore but there are times I crave a good steak or hamburger but I am not really into fast food. I am a big gal, so food/eating is a pleasure, but I don't eat just anything.
I don't watch TV because I dislike commercials and would rather wait until the show is released on DVD. I LOVE the West Wing Series. I especially like to put it on and watch from beginning to end - all 7 years, little by little. WW was my safe harbor in the recent 8 years of horrible political storms. I love Sorkin's fast paced and intelligent dialogue, political ideas and multiple story lines.
Quirky and funny is very good too: Boston Legal, 30 Rock, Firefly.
The six things I could never do without
I am assuming my lover would be in the friends part of the mix, so that is taken care of.
I am person who owns a lot of things, but could do without most of them. Flexible minded and adaptable, I can be very urban but would love to own land and live a more peaceful and more physical life. I have hobbies and skills that are useful when things get tough. I knit, sew, quilt, spin fiber, garden, and I know how to care for people with energy, aromatherapy, and good home remedies etc.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Otherwise, how people live, how they feel, what makes them tick. I am fascinated by other people's lives and how and why they have made their choices.
I spend a lot of time thinking about what I am doing right now, in the moment vs. spending time thinking about the past or too far into the future.
On a typical Friday night I am
The most private thing I'm willing to admit here
