My self-summary
My motivation for joining this site is basically because I have been in Missoula for a few years and the bar scene just doesn't interest me. I've done the college thing and I am not interested in dating someone who feels the need to spend a great deal of time in the bar, but I've also had trouble meeting people in non-bar settings.
I really enjoy good conversation, but since college my friends and I have moved to different areas of the state, country, and world. I look forward to the times we are all able to get together, but would like to find the same kind of conversation closer to home.
What I’m doing with my life
I recently started a new job and things are beginning to settle down just in time for ski season. Right now I am spending time with friends, trying to get better at all the things I do, and planning my next trip...suggestions welcomed here.
I’m really good at
I like to think I am a good listener, however with the demands of my work, I usually need some down time before talking about anything too serious after work.
The one thing I take pride in is my ability to find fun in otherwise "boring" activities.
The first things people usually notice about me
OK. So I asked around about this one and here's what I found out. Most of my college friends say they were intimidated by me at first. I don't really understand this because I am not that scary. I think it's most likely because I am generally more introverted when I meet new people.
The thing my female friends said the first thing they noticed was my voice. Maybe I have a future career as a narrator of audio books or children's movies...actually that might be fun.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Books-Anything by Steinbeck, Vonnegut, Orwell. One Flew Over the Cuckoos Nest, The Prophet. I am also reading about work related topics. Usually alternate between fiction and non-fiction. Oh, and I love Shel Silverstein.
Movies-I really enjoy stuff from the Coen Bros., lots of of comedy, action, suspense. I'm actually in to anything except horror flicks.
Music-Almost anything goes aside from popular radio, top 40 stuff. Lately it's been old r&b like Otis Redding, Al Green, Etc. Aside from that anything from punk to hip-hop to reggae.
Food-open to most anything, but I love pizza.
The six things I could never do without
I am going to avoid the very literal interpretation of the question (food, water, etc)
1. Music (listening or playing). My iPod is nearly always on hand.
2. Time outdoors. In the spring-fall I like to backpack, rock climb, run, hike, and folf. The winter is all about skiing.
3. Comedy. Who doesn't love to laugh.
4. Books/Other reading material. As mentioned above.
5. Time with friends and family. BBQ's, outdoor activities, movies, whatever.
6. Ongoing learning. This goes along with reading, but I also get a great deal out of talking with those I work with.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Relationships, snow, what to eat, what I'm doing this weekend, music, something I read, something I heard, hydration, the meaning of old sayings to which we've lost meaning, etc.
On a typical Friday night I am
Usually spending time with friends. Depending on the season I might be at a BBQ or spending time outdoors. To be honest I don't think there is a typical Friday night.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I know how to crochet. Crochet, the manly needle work.
According to this site I am 1% my own enemy.
