I am complex, contemplative, and atypical.

My Self-Summary

I embrace life, looking for friends, musicians, friendly musicians, and the occasional passionate woman who believes in her own strengths and wants to share the joys of life, from the philosophical to the physical. I try to make a difference in this world, through my career, in my commitment to my children, and by volunteering in the community. I am raising a teenage daughter alone, having lost my wife to breast cancer three years ago.

My life is still an evolving path and I am grateful for those who continue to illuminate the way.

There are those who tell me what they want to be and what they want to pursue. Others of us find ourselves compelled to do what we do - writing, music, helping others in often unexpected ways. It's being open to what the universe holds for us that matters. If we close ourselves off through preconceived notions of what we could be or should be, we short change our potential and the amazing opportunities that life can present. (OK, I'm not sure if I'm sounding wise and esoteric or pretentious and generally full of it, but if you're on the same path - and it's a broad one that wanders all over - you get it...!)

What I’m doing with my life

Raising my teenage daughter, working a busy professional career, writing songs, singing and playing music! Dating a special woman.

I’m really good at

Playing guitar and singing. Folk music - American (Bob Dylan, John Prine, Jimmy Buffet, Joan Baez, P,P&M). Old outlaw country (Willie Nelson, Kris Kristoffersen, Johnny Cash), Celtic music (Scotch-Irish), some Eagles, Skynyrd, and Marshall Tucker Band. some blues, some bluegrass.

The first things people usually notice about me

I am tall and bearded (short/neat/graying). People draw all kinds of conclusions from those two things. Look a little deeper and look into my eyes - the windows of the soul!

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

I loved the first Matrix movie. I liked the story behind the story - of whether we`re really awake and alive or whether we just perceive things the way others feed them to us. To paraphrase Stephen Crane from many years ago, "I am not responsible for reality. I am only responsible for my own personal honesty." Most people don`t like what they perceive so they create an alternative that makes life easier and more pleasant for them. I choose to live with my eyes open and accept both the good and the bad life has to offer.

The six things I could never do without

1. My children.
2. A good guitar.
3. Friends.
4. Chocolate.
5. Good wine or beer.
6. A good woman.

I spend a lot of time thinking about

The next stages of my life. What is my "bucket list" of what I want to do before I die? I have been to Japan and Ireland in the last two years, driven a NASCAR race car at Charlotte Motor Speedway, driven ambulance in San Francisco for a living (years ago), ridden motorcycles up and down the Pacific Coast highway, skied the Swiss Alps and the Colorado Rockies, recorded a CD of original music, been to some amazing concerts and music festivals, played music with extraordinarily talented folks, enjoyed the love of some good women, and both hitchhiked and driven across the country. Lots of great memories to think about and a desire to create many more.

On a typical Friday night I am

playing music with friends, going to a movie, eating out - or maybe hanging out at home with a good movie or book.

The most private thing I’m willing to admit here

What part of "private thing" don't y'all get?

You should message me if

You like to play (guitar, mandolin, fiddle, bass) and sing my kind of music. I can be a great long term friend. Be honest; I will be, too.
