I am Shy, Geeky, and Funny.

My Self-Summary

OK, where do I start? How about my name? My name is Nick. Nice and original, right?

As you might have guessed from seeing my username, I enjoy my music. I call myself a "music whore" because I like many different bands and genres. However, in reality, I probably am not that much of a whore because I tend to not listen to a few genres, namely: Rap and Country. I don't mind some songs/artists, but I have never gone out of my way to purchase any music from these genres.

I've never been very outgoing (except for maybe when I was in elementary school when there were only so many kids to get to know). Joining OKCupid is a small attempt at getting to know more people because I lack the time to do so (and the balls when I'm out in public).

I'd say I'm a pretty funny guy, but probably just to the few people who know me and my sense of humor.
I'm also very geeky, and like to make fun of myself for being geeky. However, I do take pride in being a geek.

I also ride a motorcycle (1994 Suzuki Katana) that most people think I'm too short to ride. However, I passed my riding test on the first try and know how to ride it while keeping my disadvantages (short height) in mind. I'd like to get a new motorcycle, but don't really have the money for it.

Finally, I'd like to also explain some of the topics in "The Skinny" about me a little.

** I have never smoked, drank or taken drugs. In fact, I try not to even take medication unless it's absolutely necessary. Reasons behind this are: I find them unhealthy (I'm a bit of a health freak), I personally think much of the medication in today's society is to try and solve silly problems (I know there are definitely exceptions to this), and lastly (and probably most importantly) I HATE side effects.

** Children: I like children, but am unsure of whether I want any of my own. I absolutely love being an uncle. I get to play with my nephews and do all the fun stuff with them. When they start getting a bit rowdy for me, it's off to the parents they go.

** Religion: I was born into an LDS (Mormon) family. I think I believed until about 9th or 10th grade. Due to my parents getting divorced and some seminary teachers saying that I would not live with my entire family (both parents) in the afterlife, I decided I had a problem with some of its teachings. Since then, I found more of its teachings that I disagreed with. However, I still went through the motions until I got the balls to tell my parents before turning in my mission papers @ 19. Since then I've briefly looked into other religions. While they all have their own little differentiations, I've found similarities with many of them. I think that there are good things about religions. It helps many people live (at least in their eyes) better lives. It comforts them through death and trials they are going through. I, on the other hand, don't think I need a religion to become the person I want to be, to become a better person, or deal with hardships and death. I live the "Golden Rule." I try my absolute best not to judge others for their lifestyles or characteristics because that has always bugged me. I also STRONGLY believe in the freedom of choice. There are obviously consequences to one's choices (be they good or bad), but it is that and ONLY THAT PERSON'S choice. That being said, there are certain choices/lifestyles/actions I do not condone, but I do not condemn that person. Most importantly, I just want people to accept others and let trivial mistakes go. I would like for humanity to not negatively focus on someone's trivial actions and lifestyles (and to me, almost everything is trivial). Anyways, enough about religion and on to the next section...

**** BTW, I am in NO WAY trying to say I live perfectly by my own standards. That's just the direction I try to head and wish society would head that direction too. ****

What I’m doing with my life

You've made it to the next section of my profile. Congratulations~

What I'm currently doing with my life?

I am currently going to WSU full-time. I'm majoring in Computer Science with an emphasis in Software Engineering and an even further emphasis in Game Development. I'm just about done with my Associate's Degree and hope to have my Bachelor's Degree by the end of 2010. *crosses his fingers*
I would like to use my degree to develop video games. I'd like to be able to develop games independently, but I'm not saying that is absolutely going to happen. I'll go where there is money to be had (if I need it). However, a goal of mine is to make a complete game by myself (preferably an RPG).

I also work part-time at Jamba Juice. I have worked there for 3.5 years. I love my job there. However, as with every job, there are days where I wished I didn't work there. The grass is always greener on the other side, right?

Since I started working @ Jamba Juice ("JJ," "Jamba," or "The Double 'J'" are what my family usually refer it to as), I have become a bit of a health freak. I used to love the "Classic" smoothies and the "Matcha Green Tea Blast." But for the last couple of years, I can only stand to drink "All Fruit" smoothies, or add a little plain/vanilla yogurt to an "AF" smoothie. Anything with sherbet in it is too sweet for me now. I love all the "AF" smoothies except the "Strawberry Whirl" (it's much too bland imo). However, much of the time I just make up my own smoothies. Some of my favorites are:

-Peach Perfection with half soy milk, half peach juice (Adding some fresh banana and/or some plain yogurt in there is definitely tasty as well)

-All Acai juice, Mangoes and Blueberries (also good with strawberries instead of mangoes). I do not suggest this one to people though. So far I'm the only person who likes this.

-All fruit smoothie with half carrot juice, half orange juice. Stick any fruit in there and it tastes great, but I usually do mangoes, peaches, and fresh banana. (Seriously, the fresh banana makes smoothies 10x better. I hate the frozen bananas now).

Oh my! I have really digressed in this section. It's supposed to be about what I'm doing with my life...

School and Work pretty much take up all my time. That's nice and to the point!

I’m really good at

Oh boy... I've never really thought I've excelled in anything, except for maybe math (I have a good story about my Pre-calculus class in high school. I'll let you query me about it if you so desire). However, Calculus is proving to be quite difficult.

I'm also pretty good at identifying music/artists. I'm definitely good at spending money on DVDs, music, and new games (before I finish the games I already have... Naturally!)

I'd like to think I have a really good memory, but I can be selective about what I want to remember.

Things I would like to be better/good at:

- Playing Guitar (among other instruments. this is just my favorite)
- Understanding how to build an efficient computer
- Programming
- Taking notes and retaining knowledge I read in books

The first things people usually notice about me

That's easy! My height. Also, I get commented on my smile a lot. It really depends on who I'm surrounded by and where I'm at. I don't smile in a lot of places. I just keep to my self.

When I had long hair, people would comment on that very often too. I had a pony tail halfway down my back at one point.

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

OK...I could go on forever in this section, but I'll try to keep it reasonable.

Books: Watchmen, The Crow (Those 2 are Graphic Novels), 1984, Lord of the Flies, The Hobbit and LotR trilogy, and Terry Brooks books (Shannara series and Magic Kingdom of Landover series are the ones I've started, but haven't finished). I don't get much time to read for leisure though. The books I read nowadays are text books for school. Suck-eh!

Movies: I absolutely love movies. I'm a DVD junkie and find interest in film history. The few movies that I would say are my favorite (mainly because I tend to re-watch these more often than others) Braveheart, Seven, No Country For Old Men, Sin City, Shaun of the Dead, Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, The Departed, Babel, 21 Grams, V for Vendetta, Final Fantasy: Advent Children (I didn't mind the story, and the CGI was absolutely beautiful). I could go on, but I won't.

I'm going to add a section of my own here. Kind of a subset of movies.

Anime: Serial Experiment Lain, Azumanga Daioh, Neon Genesis Evangalion, Cowboy Bebop, Samurai Champloo, Ghost in the Shell, and Miyazaki works (namely Princess Mononoke, Spirited Away and Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind)

Music: I could list hundreds of bands here that I love, but I'll just name a few. My taste ranges from Ace of Base to Marilyn Manson. From B.B. King to Joe Dassin. Soundtracks from movies, anime, and video games. I absolutely love Maynard's voice (APC, Tool, Puscifer). Nada Surf, Minus the Bear, NIN (I like his later stuff best: With Teeth, Year Zero, Ghosts, The Slip), and Gustavo Santaolalla. David Bowie, Depeche Mode, Dir En Grey. I'll stop there. I've acquired 16k+ songs from almost 900 artists and I get new music at least once a week. I've barely scratched the surface. This would be why I call myself a "music whore."

Food: I love fruits and veggies. I COULD be a vegetarian, but I love fish way too much. Sushi is absolutely amazing. Rice. Granola. And I wouldn't be a college student if I didn't love PB and J. As far as drinks go, I'm a water, juice, milk, and tea (preferably green) guy. I hardly ever drink anything else. I don't like carbonated drinks very much anymore.

The six things I could never do without

My first two are my main sources of listening to music.
1) Computer
2) iPod

3) My Motorcycle
4) The Internet

And the serious things:
5) The ability to clearly think for myself. Back to drugs and alcohol; I absolutely hate not being able to think clearly due to being medicated. Why would I partake of drugs and alcohol if I don't like being high? (I also value logical thinking, but everyone has different logic. Some say my logic is pretty screwy, but hey, it makes sense to me!)

6) The few friends I do have and my family. People are not really things, so this is kind of incorrect. If you don't accept that answer, Friendships would be my final answer. Friendships are VERY important to me.

Those might change later on, but that's pretty accurate for now.

I spend a lot of time thinking about

Hmmm... Do I really need to say it?

-First and foremost, Music!
-What my best friend is up to.
-School
-Work

On a typical Friday night I am

Hmmm... If I'm not working, I'm usually trying to get some plans made with friends only to be shut out because they have significant others. So I end up watching a movie or anime.

The most private thing I’m willing to admit here

I am a virgin. On top of that, I have never kissed anyone (besides my mom). Furthermore, I have never had a girl friend.

Loser?...maybe. But it's mostly because I'm very shy.

Also, I swear like a sailor. However, hardly anyone hears me swear. Most of the time I swear in my mind or when I'm alone. I don't like to force people to listen to my cussing. Not to mention, it doesn't sound very intelligent hearing someone cussing every other word. It's good practice to expand my vocabulary.

You should message me if

-I have not scared you off with my novel-like profile (I had no intention of writing so much in my profile, but as I started, it became kind of cathartic.)

-You'd like to talk music, movies, video games.

-Would like to know more about me.

-If you feel like it.

-Any other reason you see fit to messaging me.
