My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
World traveler currently doing South America, and returning to NYC in February.

Straight talking gent with eclectic interests and a down-to-earth, go get 'em attitude on life. Friends have described me as thoughtful, smart, and very loving.

I enjoy meeting new people. When everyone around is looking at their smartphones, saying hello seems appropriate. If we click as potential friends or more, great!

Originally from California, and moved to Brooklyn in 2011.
I've lived and have family abroad, and love new adventures.
Passionate about all things culture, design, and nature.
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
I help nonprofits and cultural organizations better communicate with people. By making interactions delightful and relevant information easier to find and act on.

Also considering how to get a couple (secret) side projects going that involve storytelling, interviews, and photography.

Outside of that I enjoy hiking upstate at least 2x month
Going to theater shows
Running and biking (road bike for now, though I'd love a cruiser again)
Art studio crawls in Brooklyn, LES, and student shows (Spring/Fall)
Lectures and book clubs because I'm endlessly intrigued and nerdy,
Live storytelling like the Moth,
and scanning indy culture listings to fill up the schedule, but still making alone time for reading and cooking. It's about balanced enjoyment through presence.

I value and regularly donate to Planned Parenthood, National Resources Defense Council, and select Kickstarter campaigns.
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
Being indecisive yet getting things done (most of the time!)
Mixing various food and spices into tasty dishes (or buying lots of vegetables and pondering what the hell to conjure up!)
Dancing
Listening
Playing certain piano tunes (GnR, Yann Tiersen)
Exes have said I'm a great writer. I just try to speak with courage and non-pretentious intensity...though it takes a lot of practice and editing.
The first things people usually notice about me
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
Boisterous, friendly, observant, and kind. Sometimes I'm just quiet and peaceful.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Help your potential matches find common interests.
Books: Kerouac, Vonnegut, Bukowski, Almond, Robbins, Hemingway's "Moveable Feast", Strayed's "Tiny Beautiful Things", among many others. I read a LOT and am looking forward to Proust and Murakami someday. Also read nonfiction on design and psychology. Brown's "The Gifts of Imperfection" was really good. As was "The Five Love Languages - singles edition".

Media: Documentaries, indie, and some foreign films esp. those which aptly portray the human condition and our desire for purpose, connection, fun, and love (like Before Sunrise, a Wes Anderson flick, or Ruby Sparks). Love NPR (Radiolab, This American Life, and KCRW). Don't have a tv but do enjoy Game of Thrones and Al Jazeera English (for world news). Oh and Joseph Campbell's "The Power of Myth". And an occasional TED or Creative Mornings talk.

Music: Americana, indie rock, blues, outlaw country, bluegrass, afrobeat, classic rock, punk, opera, electro, techno, house, 80s. Three bands I'd dig as a trio would be Mazzy Star, Chemical Brothers, and the Killers.

Heroes: Charles and Ray Eames, Richard Branson, and imagineer Walt Disney.
The six things I could never do without
Think outside the box. Sometimes the little things can say a lot.
Good-hearted reliable friends
Outdoors
Unread Books
Dogs
A whiskey fine of glass...what? I can't be off cut bartender!
Meditation and journaling
Smart, beautiful, and cultured women
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
Time traveling to the wild west, being a hired gun, and laughing with others in the saloon at hipster and wannabe cowboys from the big city with their fancy shiny gear.
On a typical Friday night I am
Netflix and takeout, or getting your party on — how do you let loose?
Exploring, attending an art/dance/music event from the 6pm email newsletters I'm dying to check out; drinks and food with friends, talking to new folks, walking a gallery, it varies!
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
Sometimes get sentimental when actors and media break the fourth wall through powerful emotion.

Offer a few tips to help matches win you over.
You live for raw culture, are silly, enjoy intelligent dialogue, want to meet for food and drinks, or have fun at an upcoming event with someone to muse and laugh with.
If you have a major passion that drives you, I want to hear it.
Let's just see where that takes us first.

My ideal partner is someone who is kind, patient, driven, appreciates experiences over material possessions, likes the arts/books/theatre, enjoys some kind of fitness, values the environment, shares, and practices compassion and gratitude.

Though if you're a super foodie with snobbish tendencies, love politics (except if environmental or social-justice related), designer shopping, lots of tv, arrogant, or really into football, I don't think we'll get along.

Salud!
