My self-summary
I don't understand this concept of summarizing one's self. In some ways, I am many things. In other ways, I'm a very simple person.

I'm a recent college grad. I got my degree in writing. So I write. I'm applying to a bunch of jobs I'm vaguely under-qualified for, avoiding throwing in the towel to wait tables.

What else? I like to work out. I like marijuana and can smoke anybody under the table, but I'm also a 3-beer queer, as some of my east coast blue collar friends like to remind me.

I'm originally from New York City, but left for the 'burbs when I was 7. I've been in Oakland since I was 9. I plan to leave soon unless someone or something gives me a compelling reason to stay.

Not to say I have anything against the bay, or NorCal in general. I just feel like 17 out of 25 years in one place is enough time to warrant spelunking around other parts of the country, if not the world!
What I’m doing with my life
Just graduated with a B.A. in Writing & Literature, which means I am applying to jobs. Slowly expanding my search for employment beyond the bay area, also getting more ambitious and creative with the stature and types of companies I am applying for jobs with. Pretty exciting time- still waiting to feel frustrated.

In fact, today (5/23/13) I received my first official rejection e-mail and it felt surprisingly...GREAT! It's real now, you know?
I’m really good at
They tell me I use my words well and I can explain plots when others get lost while watching television or movies.

Also currently great at taking rejection- which is weird to say on a dating site, but I am speaking more so about the job application variety.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Books: I primarily read Cracked.com articles and seek out informational articles/databases for the purposes of expanding my wealth of mostly useless trivia.

But as far as paper and ink is concerned: The Bathroom Reader books, 10 People Who Died During Sex, I Hope They Serve Beer In Hell, I Killed: True Stories From the Road By America's Favorite Stand Up Comics, Animal Farm, A Civil Action

Movies: The Big Lebowski, West Side Story, Religulous, Pulp Fiction, Fight Club, Paper Moon, Double Indemnity...that's a solid base for comparison/conversation. I could list literally 200 more, but I'd rather you figure it out through conversation. I'm a consummate movie nerd.

Shows: Breaking Bad (TELL ME YOUR THEORIES!), Girls, Game of Thrones, The Walking Dead, Mad Men, also Discovery and History channel series; Futurama, Family Guy and Parks and Rec when I want to shut my brain off for a bit.

Music: Could be anything, depending on my mood

Food: vitamin k = bad for me with my heart valve, so I'm no longer a fan of salad/kale/spinach. I do love fish and sushi, though!
The six things I could never do without
In No Particular Order:

1. Money- makes the world go 'round

2. Spicy or sour food- makes meals interesting

3. Sex- we mostly all like it, we mostly all were created via coitus.

4. Blood thinners- Gots me a mechanical valve, need to keep the chambers greased for the old ticker, there.

5. 420- Such a special number. Also a multiple of the answer to life, the universe, everything and Jackie Robinson...And Mariano Rivera.

6. Family- See no. 3 and I think you'll find we're in agreement. Not saying it's a perfect system, but it's all I've got!
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Independence, sex, what to eat, what to do with my time, drugs, alcohol, the economy, money, societal mores and folkways.
On a typical Friday night I am
With friends or alone, probably smoking 420, possibly watching a movie.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I smoke weed. I prefer it to alcohol when kicking back with friends or at some kind of alcohol-heavy soiree, shindig, cookout, etc.
