I am reflective, surprising, and human.

My Self-Summary

I'm a specific type of person, a specialty, maybe even a niche-market. I think I've learned that each one of us in our uniqueness probably appeals to a very small audience. Well then, here's me versus the odds.

I'm full of convictions, a wizened intellectual, a well-rounded and sociable not-quite-nerd (and not quite not); a feisty debater, spiritual and generous, compassionate, concerned, healthy, powerful in my flexibility, my stubbornness and my discernment, continually striving "not to take life seriously the wrong way". (Prof. Rick Steele, SPU)

I'm pretty similar to Hobbes from Calvin and Hobbes; probably because I've always liked who he is. The way Hobbes is earnest, deep-thinking and dignified, yet playful, mischievous and full of wonderment really struck a chord with me.

I'm an introvert, and the kind of person who can always have fun doing something quiet at home (watching movies, reading, listening to music, cooking with someone etc.). Still, I have fun going out and about, for something new or out of the ordinary. I like restaurants, exploring, exhibits and galleries, parks, talks, concerts (loud or serene) etc. Also, kayaking and other things involving water. I think a good first date is one where it's easy to talk to each other, and I really like picnics for that. I'm optimistic about new activities, and easy to please as long as I have someone wonderful to be around.

Ultimately, I'm looking for a sweetheart. Intelligence, kindness and the ability to inspire bring out the best in me.

I really love great music and conversation, I have both an artistic and a scientific / technical side. I am an environmentalist. I have a fascination with alternative energy tech.

I am indeed a Christian, and my faith is a significant part of who I am. I spent part of my college education formally studying theology (and philosophy, and science), something I'm very glad I did. It's impacted me very positively, in ways that experience tells me are best appreciated outside of OKC. Better not to write it all up here, I mean.

If you're familiar with the Myers-Briggs personality test, I'm an INFP. Just by nature, I'm a very deep thinker who is forever willing to ponder and confront heavy subjects, but in spite of this I'm predominantly easy-going. Not that I've gone to great lengths to display it here, but I definitely carry a sense of humor with me.

What I’m doing with my life

I have a career as a technology manager at my office; I'm a one-man department who addresses everything from technology bills for our franchise, to maintaining a fleet of laptops, fixing equipment in the stores and setting up / managing our servers.

As for my free time, I've been re-reading some amazing texts / revisiting my college education, catching up with old friends, taking care of necessities and doing a lot of laughing recently.

I’m really good at

Eating fast with chopsticks.

Driving, navigation, and anything involving maps, directions, a compass or landmarks. I'm never truly lost. I will always get where I'm going before long, and then get home again.

I'm very good with Vocabulary and grammar. (Hah!)

Staying healthy.

Conflict resolution.

Fighting entropy.

Theology.

Making computers work better than average and making them understandable to people.

I'm good at lots of things that are interpersonal, mental or technological, and my nature is basically that of a philosopher and a physician.

The first things people usually notice about me

My height. (definitely tall, but I "carry it well" according to many... a good way to describe it is that I don't look shockingly tall, so much as I do just look taller than bystanders.)

That I am well-spoken or articulate.

An immediate sense of humor when I meet someone.

(I asked a friend about this.)

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

Food: I have an enthusiastic palate. I love spicy and ethnic food, and I can go for either grub or gourmet equally. We can definitely adventure dinging out. :) It's very important to me to eat healthy; yet I always make sure to fully enjoy my food and I see no contradiction there. It's just that when it comes to my lifestyle, I enjoy feeling well and having a body that will support what I want out of life.

Music: It's an understatement to say I'm a music lover (I'm a synesthetic, in fact). I will eagerly listen to anything that grabs my attention... I tend to zero in on rich, complex, powerful or beautiful sounds, and keep refining my collection down to what I like the best. Bands (Some obscure): Gideon's Press, Sixpence None the Richer, Fold Zandura / Mortal, Starflyer 59, Tiesto, U2, Jimmy Eat World, Matisyahu etc.

A sample of movies- Crash, Ratatoille, Kung Fu Panda ("there is no secret ingredient")... Generally I like thinking films, action, suspense, drama, comedy, documentary... even a romance can get a nod from me as long as it has substance. I also tend to eat up period films.

Some books: Letters to Doubting Thomas (by one of my Philosophy professors), The Story of Christianity by Justo Gonzales (a history of the faith), any Madeline L'Engel who I was introduced to very young, authors like N.T. Wright or Deitrich Bonhoeffer... other categories too but I want to mention these.

The six things I could never do without

A close friend
Something interesting to hear or read about
Creativity / originality
Gripping music
Some downtime

And it's cliche, but, love. I know how to be by myself and that's all just fine; now I've thrown myself headlong into the struggle to find something better. I'd rather wake up and be amazed by someONE every day, not just someTHING. I don't plan on being solitary, not that I have final control over that.

I spend a lot of time thinking about

Theology / philosophy / science and how it all relates.
The wonder that is women
Technology
Life
Love
Current events
Things that make me try to suppress laughter in public places.
Music

Sublime things that took so much work, creativity and inspiration; took so many of the right things coming together to produce them, only to be appreciated for a moment before passing into obscurity.

On a typical Friday night I am

Hanging out with a good buddy who is an introvert like myself, for a celebratory end-of-the-week dinner, usually a friendly/heated debate, and watching shows we've recorded during the week. Right now I'm really enjoying House and SG:U.

The most private thing I’m willing to admit here

I find games frustrating. I'm trying to figure out how to best represent myself, but I don't believe in engineering my way to success. I'd like to just be real.

You should message me if

For long term dating: If you have any combination of intelligence, compassion and sweetness. That's what I'm looking for, as well as part of what I can offer you. I'm also looking for someone who would want us to be a regular / frequent part of each other's lives, if we discover we're a great match.

For short-term dating: Why not? At the very least, I learn something, you learn something... step three, profit.
