My name is Ariel. I love reading, I love writing, and I like finding new people to hang out with/talk to. (Which is one thing I'm using this profile for, as well as dating.) I also enjoy gaming, whether it be on my 3DS, my computer, or one of my mobile devices.
I live in Virginia, but I'm from New York. I've also lived in Connecticut and Nevada, as well as four places total in Virginia (including Fredericksburg).
I had a rather unconventional childhood (homeschooled, but not for religious reasons - for those familiar with the terminology, it was much more unschooling/freeschooling) and pretty much grew up online when I wasn't off somewhere reading. (I still have trouble passing a bookstore without going in, and can walk through a Young Adult/Teen book section and tell you about at least a third of the books at any given moment.)
In my time online I did text-based roleplaying (chats as well as MUSHes and a few MUDs), was a member of a number of discussion forums (including, at one time, one centered around virtual pets.. shh), ran a group on a blog site that made little avatar graphics (oh Photoshop, how I love you), and wrote a great deal of poetry and prose. I flourished more than I ever would have in school, but never had a built-in social group.
I like having people to hang out with, catch a movie with, or simply talk to via IM or PM - and I'd like to have more of them. That's why I'm here.
However, before we get any further: I do not have children, I do not want children and do not plan on having children at any point in my life (though I'll be a badass aunt). If you have a kid, sorry, but that's a deal breaker. I know how hard it is to be a good parent & know I don't have it in me.
Speaking of dealbreakers, I know there are poly couples/people in open relationships who also use this site. That's awesome & I wish you luck (seriously, I know it's hard) but I'm a one-guy kind of girl. Also, if you identify Christian or Catholic and take your religion seriously, we probably will not mesh.
This is not intended to be harsh, just informative. Now, for those still reading...
