My Notes edit

My self-summary

I'm confident and secure; and straightforward and honest. I've been told I'm sweet, cute, and caring. I'm also told I'm funny, but I'm not so sure about that - I have a very dry sense of humor and most people can't decipher if I'm making a joke for them, or about them! I do like to laugh, and I'm pretty easy-going.

I like to read, and I'm into music and the arts (...not so much for modern dance or rap). I went to art school and I still paint and write songs. I'm a vegetarian, but I enjoy shellfish and bi-valves (lobster, shrimp, mussels, clams). I love to try new restaurants; and I love to cook. I can make a pretty good attempt at some Chinese dishes, and I'm really good at Indian. I like beer and wine.

I'm a compulsive Aries, but with that comes passion. I'm very soft and tender too. I'll dance with you, if you'd like; and I love to stay up late. I like going out to see bands or foreign/intellectual films, or staying in with a funny video or action flick. I like museums and quirky things like celebrating Bloom'sday or International Talk Like A Pirate Day. I like breakfast or Sunday brunch with the New York Times. And, in general, I try to just be a really nice guy :)

My profile name comes from a poem by Walt Whitman. I'm not that into his poetry (I prefer Bukowksi), but it seemed to fit. It wasn't easy to find a name that wasn't already taken; and to be honest, it's a pretty good poem!

I'm looking for someone to share things with, and have a good time with in general, regardless of what that might be. I'm easy-going, playful, and funny. But more importantly, I'm honest and sincere. I'm humble and a bit idealistic. I like to try new things and I'm pretty adventurous. I'm also level-headed, which keeps me from jumping into things even though my Aries nature tends to push me that way. I guess I'm a little cautious as I know how impulsive I can be at times.

Some of my favorite things to do are paint, check out bands, try new restaurants, see art/foreign films, visit the art museum, have little picnics, write songs, walk aimlessly about the city taking photos of anything that seems interesting, or just hang out at home and watch a video with a beer and a bucket of popcorn. And, as I mentioned earlier, I love to cook!

I don't watch much TV, but I like documentaries and informative shows. For entertainment I like comedies and some action adventure. And I also have a thing for old TV shows, the things that I used to watch when I was a kid... The Avengers, The Nightstalker (no one seems to remember this one!), Night Gallery, Alfred Hitchcock, and cartoons like Speed Racer and Catch The Pidgeon (no one remembers that one either), and Ultra Man.

What I'm doing with my life

When I was in first grade I had a girlfriend, or rather, she had me... she used to jump on my back every time I walked into the schoolyard! Anyway, she was the first person that ever asked me what I wanted to do when I grew up (as far as I remember). I told her that I wanted to be an artist and paint the Eiffel tower. I haven't done that yet, but I will (unless I die fairly quickly. Did I mention I have a dry sense of humor?) Anyway, I went to art school. I paint and draw and take photos. Check out my blog at http://shoeboxheart.blogspot.com

And I'm a mediochre musician. Being tone deaf with a weak voice hasn't helped. (Again, dry humor). I make my living in the craft beer industry though, which is pretty fun. I love my job and I'm pretty happy with my life, so although I haven't succeeded at everything, at least I've gotten one of the important things right!

I'm really good at

tasting beer and wine and cheese. Making a decent dinner from whatever's been left in the back of the pantry. Compiling mixed CDs. Changing the radio station IMMEDIATELY when crap comes on. Kissing. Hugging. Remembering to call if I'll be late. Penny pinching. Swimming with sharks. Seeing the forest for the trees. Driving. Recycling. Hanging out. Being responsible. Hatching ideas I'll never use.

The first thing(s) people usually notice about me

I'm kind of quiet. I'm not the regular Joe. Perhaps that I don't look my age, although incoming gray hairs may soon hinder that.

- The best live show I've seen may have been The Clash at the U of Penn skating rink with Burning Spear opening. It was so close you could actually smell them on stage! And, it was The Clash at their height, except they did mainly "Combat Rock".

The six things I could never do without

Love. Everything else is easy.

I spend a lot of time thinking about

the big picture... the concept of "God", the expanding universe and beyond, the fate of the earth. Life. Death. The future. How to be a better person.

Art. Music. Our current political picture. Whether or not it's possible for us to have a black man or woman as president. And why some people have a problem with that. How we're so afraid of terrorists blowing up buildings while our bridges and roads are falling apart around us. Oh, and our levees... remember New Orleans, because the government hasn't! Traffic patterns and how to fix them. Architecture. Beer. Movies I've seen and books I've read. What my friends are doing. What my parents are feeling as they get older.

On a typical Friday night I am

Every other weekend I have my two daughters, so I'm with them. Beyond that I could be anywhere: dinner, theater, concert, party, beach, bar, working, reading, playing music, writing, painting, dancing, movies, etc. I have a lot of different interests, and a lot of friends that I hang out with. It would be easier if they all got together, but that would make it less fun, wouldn't it?

The most private thing I'm willing to admit here

Not much. I'm a very guarded person until I get to know you. However, I think if you look at the tests I've taken you should be able to figure a few things out for yourself. I should add however to this and say that I've changed a bit and some of my old views may be different now.

I did, however, go to see Culture Club when I was younger... and there WAS a girlfriend involved (I know you were expecting that), but I won't use that as an excuse! I did it, and I lived to tell about it! In fact, I sometimes break into song while at work - "kharma, kharma, kharma chameleon... red, gold and green, red, gold and greeee-eee-een" - much to the shock and horror of my fellow workers! Of course I'm only doing it to get a laugh, but it's more of an Andy Kauffman comedy (or as he would say, anti-humor, or dada absurdist performance art.
