My Notes edit

My self-summary

Hi! I moved to Boulder in August 2007. I had previously been living and working at home (which is in CT) after having graduated from Northeastern (which is in Boston) with a degree in Computer Science and Psychology (which is finally proving useful). I like it a lot out here, it's great living on my own and being more or less independent. I have a great group of friends here, albeit a small one. They put up with my flaws, and in return I regale them with tales of my adventures on the high seas from my years as a privateer.

So, in general, life is good, apart from the fact that I've been single for far too long. I attribute this to the fact that I tend not to speak to people I don't have a reason to speak to, so I don't meet a lot of new people. New people come from people I already know, which, as I said, is a small group. But, I digress. I'm looking for a long term relationship with the right girl, but I guess I'm open to short term too, in the sense of dating someone to see where it goes.

P.S. I was never a privateer. My tales may or may not only involve bland things such as oatmeal.

What I'm doing with my life

Right now I'm working in the cable industry. I like it a lot. No, I can't get you free cable, even if you ask me really nicely. Even if you offer me cookies. Well, maybe for cookies I'll explain to you why I can't, or maybe if you just ask. Other than that, I'm attempting to get out of car and student loan debt before I maybe someday venture into the exciting world of mortgages.

I'm really good at

Rock Band. Listening. Making fun of TV shows/movies. Putting myself in other people's shoes, typically not literally. Teaching, or so I'm told.

Answering questions (or is it questioning answers?) on Jeopardy that fit, but are hilariously incorrect.

The first thing(s) people usually notice about me

I don't talk very much. This is usually followed by a sarcastic remark made to me along the lines of "You're being kind of rowdy, you really need to quiet down", which, depending on my mood, I will consider to be a good chance to joke around, or annoying.

I guess this is my way of saying the obligatory "I don't talk much at first, but once I get to know you I talk a lot more" that everyone seems to put in their profiles. It's true though.

Also, people seem to think I look much younger than I am.

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

Books: Mostly sci-fi, but good sci-fi. Douglas Adams, Orson Scott Card (even though he has some screwed up views on gay marriage), William Gibson, Neal Stephenson. I haven't read much in much of a reading phase lately though. It comes and goes.

Movies: Really too many to even think of. Star Wars, Aliens, The Professional, The Matrix, Ghostbusters, Office Space, Snatch, Tampopo, to name but a few. If I think of any more good ones, I'll add them.

TV (since it fits in nicely here): I don't watch TV much, despite the fact that it's my job and I get paid to do so. Sort of. I do, however, like to watch TV series on DVD. I went through an anime phase in high school/college, so I like some of the series from those days, like Cowboy Bebop, Escaflowne, Trigun, Kenshin, but anime doesn't interest me much these days. Other series that I really like are Doctor Who, Firefly, Alias, Heroes, Battlestar Galactica, It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia.

Music: They Might Be Giants, 2 Skinnee J's, Mr. Scruff, The Toasters, The Aquabats, The Pilfers, Coheed and Cambria to an extent. Bonus points if you've heard of some of the more obscure ones there.

Food: Mexican and BBQ are probably my favorites. I don't like fish, or pickles. Anything with chicken and/or pasta is good.

The six things I could never do without

Contact lenses

The Interwebs (although I can bear to be without it for some time, I don't start getting panic attacks if I'm going on a camping trip or something)

Close friends and/or family

Something to do. If I'm alone with just my thoughts and nothing to do, it's no good.

Shade. I get burned super easily. Damn you, shiny sky ball!

Knowing what I'm doing. I need a plan to a certain extent.

I spend a lot of time thinking about

Myself, how I relate to other people, what I'm doing with and where I am in my life.

On a typical Friday night I am

Hanging out with my friends, which, on Fridays, tends to entail going out to eat somewhere, and playing laser tag, Risk, or Rock Band.

The most private thing I'm willing to admit here

I tend to brush my teeth standing on one foot. Seriously.

You should message me if

You're cute and you don't smoke or do drugs. I sometimes get the feeling that I'm the only one in Boulder that doesn't smoke pot (besides my friends), so yeah, definitely prove to me that that's not true.

Or, if you think the whole "privateer" thing was funny. That's sort of a taste of my sense of humor at its best, so if you like it, I'd love to laugh with you.
