I am musical, idealistic, and lazy.
My Self-Summary
I like serious, deep conversations about all kinds of serious
issues and subjects. I like deep conversations about silly and
ridiculous things too. I am a bit of a novelty junkie. I'm a
skeptic, but I love crazy ideas, interesting scenes and subcultures
and all of that. I like being smart with smart people... that is
just a good time. I believe that a large part of being "smart" is
an attitude. Have you ever known someone who seemed to be bright
and have their things together, and then some years down the road
some other aspect of their personality seemed to wipe that
out?
The old work and hobby bit: I fix computers at a hospital for work,
I
play music
with friends (was in band in HS, guitar for 18 years, plink around
on or hit anything else I can find), read, play
RPGs,
listen to music,
video games, etc. for
fun. I'm not a wild and crazy party guy with a bad-ass attitude.
That said, I am also very socially liberal. The OKCupid questions
should show us if we have that kind of stuff in common though.
What I’m doing with my life
Right now, just enjoying the company of friends. Practicing some
music, hoping to play out more in the near future. I've recently
played a couple shows, and have a couple more lined up for this
month. It is putting me in some more social situations than normal,
so that's a good deal.
In the long term, I'm trying to arrange my life for both maximum
free time and financial security. Less things I have to do and more
things I want to do. It can be seen as crass and/or dull to talk
finances in a dating profile, but seriously, owning a paid for
house and being free of needing to do any sort of day to day grind
is a nirvana/goal of mine, and I don't think it is at all
impossible.
I’m really good at
Hmm... Calming people down, fixing up computers (a big part of my
job...), science-y trivia, guitar/music,
Street Fighter 3: 3rd Strike.
The first things people usually notice about me
I get the feeling people notice my hair 1st. It is not strangely
styled or anything, but it is longer. After that they probably
notice that I don't engage in a lot of small talk. (is this my
macho way of saying I'm shy???)
My favorite books, movies, music, and food
Favorite Books: Mostly Non-Fiction stuff about science, philosophy,
politics/econ, subcultures, etc. When I read fiction it tends to be
Sci-Fi, with some fantasy, then very occasional older literature
stuff. Oh, and I read too many
RPGs. Anyway, here are some books:
The Art
of Happiness (a psychologist interviewing the Dalai Lama),
True
Mutations (subculture-y book by R.U. Sirius of MONDO 2000
fame),
The Singularity is Near
(Ray Kurzweil, a futurist, Trans-Humanist book/vision),
The Lathe of
Heaven and
The Dispossessed (Ursula K. Le
Guin)
The Moon is a Harsh
Mistress (Robert A. Heinlein, sci-fi), Earth (David Brin,
sci-fi). Other books are more reference/overview titles that feel
silly to list but that I really like (a giant encyclopedia of
mammals, or myths, etc).
Favorite Movies:
Big Trouble in Little
China,
The Princess Bride,
Heavenly
Creatures,
Amelie,
The City of Lost
Children,
Pi,
Jacob's
Ladder,
Master of the
Flying Guillotine!,
Pale Rider,
High Plains Drifter,
Conan
the Barbarian,
The Waking Life
Favorite Shows: In shows it actually leans more towards anime.
Nothing too obscure, everything
Ghost in the Shell,
Cowboy Bebop,
Wolf's Rain,
Case Closed,
Lupin the
3rd and the maybe not quite anime
Aeon Flux. In live action shows,
Star Trek: The
Next Generation,
M*A*S*H*, The
Daily Show...
Favorite Music: I like a wide variety of music, some favs right now
include-
Fugazi,
The Dresden
Dolls,
Dr.
Octagon,
Deltron 3030,
Portishead,
Beastie Boys,
Jurrasic 5,
At the Drive-In,
Melt Banana,
that dog.,
Bjork,
Mars Volta,
Ministry,
Veruca Salt,
Prong,
The Jimi Hendrix
Experience,
Squarepusher,
The Melvins,
Northern State (heh)
yeah!
Favorite Foods: Sloppy Joes with Cheese melted on top, Spaghetti
with no meat in it and lots of parmesean, scalloped potatoes,
French Toast. Nothing too exotic in food to wow you with, but there
it is!
The six things I could never do without
Well, I went with the cliche actually necessities before (air,
water, etc.), but let's see if I can come up with something
better...
Intelligent Friends,
Music,
The Internet,
National/American
Public Radio,
Novelty - new interesting things,
Occasional Time Alone - to pursue personal things with no pressure
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Completing fun dream media projects. Complete financial freedom.
The usual instinctual thoughts of physical human comforts.
On a typical Friday night I am
Lately it has been either hanging out with one friend jamming,
talking, and listening to music, or hanging out with another friend
(possibly a small group of us) talking and possibly playing some
sort of Role Playing Game.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit here
I like t.A.T.u., unabashedly. Yes, I am speaking of the
internationally famous fake persecuted young Russian lesbian lover
dance/pop superstars. I know in my heart that they will someday be
able to break free from the restrictions of their society and the
disapproval of their parents to love each other innocently and in
complete freedom. I know I should be ashamed, but I just can't help
myself... I just can't!
You should message me if
You look at my pictures and think I'm hot? Actually, just message
me if for some reason my profile moves you to do so, I guess. Hmm,
also it would be nice if you were someone I could reasonably meet
someday. Messages from cool people around the world can be nice,
but it is hard for me to keep up the pen-pal thing.
