My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
I am a non-native species, transplanted after an East Coast childhood and book-learning stint in Boston. I have taken root well in the Bay Area, nourished by its people, environment, culture, and KQED.

I'm a button-down progressive - left of center, trying to be green, but pretty conventional in appearance, demeanor, and daily life. I am not now nor have ever been in a collective. Forming a two-person one with an awesome woman would be great!
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
Work: fixing a Mr. Fusion device. My day ranges from the sublime (PowerPoint) to the ridiculous (physics).

Play: hiking, volunteer trail work (unpaid manual labor - what could be better?), Bikram yoga (reminiscent of steamy East-Coast summers), starting to do some cycling. Doing my bit for the world: literacy tutoring and Amnesty International. Yay for culture - classical or popular concerts, shows, films, and drama. I rarely play the piano - private recitals only!
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
* Keeping in touch w/ friends I've made from age 1 until now, over the phone or in person.
* Ordering Indian food sans English translation (NJ upbringing).
* Making sweet potato pie, my fallback dessert. Chris Rock piqued my interest - ask for details!
* "Explaining science to people in a simple way" (quote from friend). For a few years I taught a weekend class for high-schoolers called "Our friend the nucleus: nuclear fission and fusion."
* France: Been a few times, like the people, place, and language. Was mystified by Bordeaux's drip coffee in espresso cups - appropriate dose?

TV: Curb Your Enthusiasm, West Wing, Family Guy, The Office. Recently discovered Modern Family. Yes-Chef Gordon Ramsey's amusing. Used to like Fringe. Kickin' it old school: The Golden Girls!
Books: Willa Cather: My Antonia = best novel ever. Confederacy of Dunces, Angela's Ashes, P J O'Rourke, Erich Fromm, Joseph Campbell.
Movies: Manhattan and other Woody Allen flicks, Coen Bros (True Grit, Big Lebowski), The Paper Chase, Caddyshack, Dolemite, Clerks.
Big comedy fan: Bill Hicks, David Cross, Richard Pryor, Patton Oswalt, Lewis Black, Lenny Bruce.
Music: Regina Spektor, Magnetic Fields, Belle and Sebastian, Jim Croce, Matthew Sweet, Nellie McKay, Nanci Griffith, Classical (esp. Beethoven and guitar).
Nom nom noms: East-Bay culinary nirvana: dinner at awesome Southeast Asian place (when did Chinese become passe?), Souley Vegan's carrot cake, washed down w/ Trappist's Belgian beer. Walk don't drive home!
The six things I could never do without
Think outside the box. Sometimes the little things can say a lot.
* My scalp massager - you gotta try it!
* Friends: l'amitie est plus dure que l'amour (10th grade wisdom).
* My ride: Corolla baby! Reliable, efficient. Midlife crisis will be an electric Tesla :)
* Whole wheat donuts at Colonial Donuts - they're healthy, right?
* Things I use but aren't essential for organic life: hiking boots, yoga mat, music keyboard, bike.

I'm a simple creature: five bullets suffices.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
Enjoying life with fidelity to principles.

Other than that: the jokers doing 60 on 580 in the morning. Explain it to me. Eco thingy? Slow foodies? Bitter Russians? NPR coma?
On a typical Friday night I am
Netflix and takeout, or getting your party on — how do you let loose?
Hopefully at a concert or city outing, like the Rigoletto or La Traviata simulcasts at Candlestick. OK they were on Saturdays. Only in SF could an opera cause a traffic jam at the ballpark.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit

Some winter nights I wear hiking socks in bed - Brrrrr!

Offer a few tips to help matches win you over.
You know why r > g is trendy now.

Perhaps you tire of online dating's search-engine mentality. You get that relationships are partly a skill or art, and not entirely about finding a single perfect object of affection. That a relationship is something you do with someone, not a static item you acquire.

You enjoy the Bay Area and plan to be here. We share some values and interests, and you can teach me something new!
