I am here, there, and everywhere.
My Self-Summary
Extraordinary Alien.
Extraordinary what? Yeah, you read it right. And it's the US
government that calls me one and *they're* never wrong about
anything . . . :-)
Successful entrepreneur and uber-geek. Artistic sensibilities and
the well traveled disreputability of an impeccable vagabond. I've
been searching the world for experiences for over fifteen years.
Now I'm looking to spend a little more time in NYC and to let the
world come to me instead.
I've been traveling to New York on and off for eight years. I run a
successful software business and have done so from Sydney,
Edinburgh, Phuket and London within the last couple of years - have
MacBook Pro, will travel.
I settled in the East Village back in January, and despite a brief
temptation to move to Rio to avoid the worst of a North Eastern
winter, I've decided to stay here to focus on my friends, studying
improv, building my business, the city, and maybe a little dating
as well :-)
What I’m doing with my life
Luckily I'm at a place with the business where I can work
moderately, do what I love, and not have to worry too much about
making payroll, so I can focus on making life rock. I've been doing
a bunch of improv classes. I couldn't imagine doing it for a
living, but I'd love to get a regular performing gig to balance out
my more technical pursuits.
If we write the stories that make up our lives, we owe it to
ourselves to make them a thriller, an adventure, a grand romance
and a memorable tale. I have more than a few friends in flyover
country who admit privately to living vicariously through my
Tweets. But then again, I like their stories of faithful hounds and
suburban SUVs. It's nice to know the whole world isn't the Lower
East Side . . .
I have lots of great friends that I keep in touch with on a daily
or weekly basis across the globe. In 2009 I managed to build a good
community of friends in the city. But I'm still looking for the one
person that I can't wait to share the rest of my adventures with.
No rush, no pressure. Being a single male in Manhattan is hardly a
curse. But I'm looking for relationships that could have real
potential - not just someone to pass a few pleasant months with . .
.
I’m really good at
Enjoying life, seeing the world, making friends, seeing the best in
people and situations, debating, flirting and clearly by the length
of this entry, self promotion :-)
The first things people usually notice about me
My eyes, my smarts, my accent (mid-atlantic with a soft Scottish
burr) or - on the street, that I walk really fast and seldom look
where I'm going!
My favorite books, movies, music, and food
Books: from Shambhala to Norwegian Wood. Movies: from the Hangover
to Waltz with Bashir. Music can be anything - just so as it's well
executed, and for food, I crave variety, making NYC a great place
to put down roots.
The six things I could never do without
Friends, iPhone, sense of humor, internet access and yoga.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
All kinds of different crazy stuff.
On a typical Friday night I am
Hanging out with friends, telling old stories and creating new
ones. Maybe catching a show at UCB, or now that it's winter,
possibly hopping a plane to warmer climes . . .
The most private thing I’m willing to admit here
I don't know you that well yet. But drop me a line and maybe we'll
discuss it over cocktails.
Oh, it's not very private, but while I love cats, I'm impossibly
allergic to them, and I'm a little allergic to dogs too. So if you
have a feline (or possibly canine) companion, I guess we're just
not meant to be. Move along, nothing to see here. Sorry!
You should message me if
you want to find out more . . .
