I took the chance last summer to roadtrip up to my home country. I drove tens of thousands of miles up the west coast, across two provinces and seven states, worked for Parks Canada in the heart of the northern rockies, and met a lot of strange and wonderful people along the way. It was a summer of firsts and it helped shape my view of life. I try to bring the goodwill and sense of celebration I found out there to everyone I meet.

I'm also a little bit bush crazy! I've been addicted to hiking and scrambling for years thanks to a geology problem I developed down here (it's ok, they're giving me a degree soon). My weekend bread and butter involves stuff like big trucks, rifles, camping, geocaching, roadtrips, throwing rock hammers at trees, and getting lost in the gigantic playground of Nevada. I feel lucky to live in a city ringed by mountains since I'm a sucker for a good skyline too. Any chance to see someplace new or experience life differently is my thing. I'm willing to go anywhere and do anything to take in the world.

Justice is especially important to me. I take care of the people who've given me their trust and look for those who can earn mine. I give the benefit of the doubt to everyone I meet and like to show a lot of affection to the people I care about.

Back here in the US, I've been working on the tail end of a B.S. Geology and minor in Economics. My focus is on exploration fieldwork for precious metals and petroleum (still on the fence). I love working in the field and I'm aiming for enough experience to start up a company of my own at some point.

Backpacking, photography, and philosophy are three of my favorites. I'll spend three days lugging a heavy ass camera and tripod to the middle of nowhere, take a nice picture, and explain on the way back why it was worth the trip.

I've got a good eye for art. In particular, I'm a fan of the Dutch Golden Age (I had the chance to see Vermeer's "The Love Letter" in person at the Vancouver Art Gallery this year!) and artists along the lines of David, Ingres, and Gerome. Islamic art and architecture, especially, has been growing on me. I'm planning to put a Persian garden in my backyard just as soon as I get the irrigation system mapped out.

Most of my reading these days is from archives like "Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences" and other boring dry junk. Back when I had time for fiction, authors such as Terry Goodkind, Neal Stephenson, and Victor Hugo were my staples.

I've been expanding my music collection as budget allows... Rush will never die, I grew up with them! Anything that sounds good on the road has a place in the CD changer, usually: Led Zeppelin, The Doors, Daft Punk, Arlo Guthrie, Jimi Hendrix, The Beatles, Pink Floyd, Nine Inch Nails, The Grassroots, The Kingston Trio, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Siouxsie and the Banshees, Fleet Foxes, The Clash, The Decemberists, Stan Rogers, and Al Stewart. Sometimes you just need to rock with Dvorak too.
