My name is three letters, and I get a warm, happy feeling when
people can pronounce it without adding extra syllables.
I enjoy both clever and stupid humor. Additional points if they
devolve (or ascend) into each other.
I love the outdoors and all the wonderful activities associated
with it - backpacking, climbing, kayaking (sea and whitewater),
I used to have dreadlocks, and then I looked in a mirror.
My goal in life is to do something noteworthy enough that someone I
don't know writes a wikipedia article about me.
What I’m doing with my life
I've found a curious level of comfort bartending in the city for
the past couple years, but before that I worked for a wilderness
therapy program, led adventure trips, and coached cross country in
Western North Carolina. The therapy was the most difficult,
rewarding work I've done, and when I finish having fun behind the
bar I'll probably reenter that line of work.
I’m really good at
Remembering insignificant details about random things.
Running for distances detrimental to health.
I pretend to be good at contra dancing.
The first things people usually notice about me
It usually follows that I have green eyes and am rather
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
I love the Marx Brothers; my Dad's fault. Good old humor that still cracks me up as others sit by in stony silence. Also, Seven Samurai, Children of Men, Secondhand Lions, Up and various other animations, and cheesy B horror flicks like Tremors. Wild Zero is f-ing fantastic.
Musically - RHCP, TV on the Radio, Gnarls Barkley, Modest Mouse, Iron & Wine, k-os, Alison Krauss, RJD2, Jurassic 5, Wild Sweet Orange, Blue Scholars, Wild Asparagus, Edward Sharpe, Manu Chao, alt-j, etc.
Reading has been my (solo) vice of choice since I was young. Wicked and other Gregory Maguire, Phillip Pullman, Dresden Files, Anne McCaffrey, The Dancing Wu Li Masters, Shōgun, The Five People You Meet in Heaven, and other random stuff, fiction, nonfiction, funky textbooks, pretty much anything. I love Maurice Sendak and Tom Robbins!
I also really enjoy the Drunken-love-poetry-to-God of Rumi and the hot mess of style of ee cummings.
The six things I could never do without
Friends, water, big toes, mental faculties, laughing, nature.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Countries I want to visit.
New tattoos I want.
Dropping everything and starting something new.
On a typical Friday night I am
Just as easily being a hermit with a book as water-coloring the
town red with friends.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I'm really good at Star Wars trivia.
