I am a fairly outdoorsy guy with a love affair with the Pacific Ocean. In the past I did a lot of SCUBA diving (even moved to Monterey for a year just for the diving) and underwater photography. Recently I bought a sea kayak and as such I've been spending quite a lot of time on the ocean and the Bay. Given the choice I would always choose a secluded beach over a crowded club. And I've come to realize Sea Otters may be the cutest critters ever.

These days (summer) I am kept fairly busy with my community garden plot and subsequently in the kitchen processing tons of veggies. I am a vegetarian and really enjoy cooking. Right now I'm baking another batch of tomatoes from my garden so I can freeze them for the harsh Palo Alto winter.

I love to get all worked up bitching about politics and am opinionated on such matters. My single favorite possession is a Martin ukulele from the 1920's. I am smitten with all things old especially musicals from the 20's and 30's. I have just written too many sentences with the pronoun 'I' in them for my taste...

Still pretty much perfecting how to live it. I have an enormous liberal guilt from growing up a middle class white male and becoming a software engineer in Silicon Valley. I try to find ways to exercise my professional skills to do some social good but have yet to find great success. My skill set is more easily applied to making money for our corporate overlords than saving the world...but it's a nut I'm going to crack.

Making seitan, naan, and as it turns out homemade ramen noodles. Not sure yet if I'm actually good at making ramen. I want to be though.

Vegetarian food. I get off on cooking entire meals that came from my garden but usually I have to employ the strength of the Farmer's Market to flush out any good meal. I like cooking lots of different kinds of food but have recently had lots of fun with Buddhist, Indian, Japanese, and Mexican recipes.

I'm all about the comedies. I also love old movies from the 20's and 30's, especially musicals. Favorite movie of all time might be Philadelphia Story. I find myself liking everything Michael Cera is in and generally applaud the revival of the 'Comedies You Can Say Fuck In' genre.

I have recently discovered I am a big fan of Frank Zappa. Otherwise I like old blues, 80's pop, latin tunes, and a bevy of other genres.

I read a lot and pretty much go for variety. The best is when I have a pile of books I haven't read around. All the literary potential energy rules. Right now I'm sitting on a book about Buster Keaton, and Frank Zappa's autobiography. Steinbeck and Vonnegut I can read over and over again.

I also keep accruing more and more cookbooks. Not sure I've used some of them but there's something comforting about a big pile of cookbooks.

Politics. Specifically right now health care reform. Any country that calls itself civilized should give every citizen access to quality health care. Especially a country like ours that can actually afford it.

Well my rate of cooking exceeds my rate of consumption. So if you like to eat home made veggie food that's a big plus in my book.
