smart, funny, and irreverent. Srsly
My self-summary Propose an edit
I'm a student putting myself through college as a Real Estate agent. I'm majoring in
Psychology and
Religious
Studies. Why both? Because I don't believe that you can
separate one from the other and if you really want to understand
people and the society they grew up in, you have to understand the
religious influences upon them.
I tell bad jokes am horribly punny and really don't care for poetry
or prose. I'll never claim to be nice, but don't mistake that for
being vicious, petty or ungenerous. I try to be tactful - I do!! -
but, I really am a sarcastic smartmouth. And while I do have a low
and evil sense of humor, I'm actually a quite cheerful person =)!
Stop laughing!! =(!!
I don't watch televised sports but, I've been known to be bullied
into going to live games. The bullying part is absolutely required
to get me to go. But, I do like professional wrestling and
horseracing. I really don't get the whole NASCAR thing at all,
though - to quote Jeff Dunham (a famous ventriloquist): "... and a
left turn... and another left turn. Oh, look!! Another left turn...
."
I grew up in Southern California and I like swimming, love the
beach and have forgotten completely how to surf. I like camping and
horseback riding, but haven't even been near a tent or horse in
over 10 years.
I'm a bit of a techie and am much more likely to upgrade my
computer myself than pay anyone else to do it. However, I suck at
software conflict resolution. I can program any VCR, paint a room,
hang a picture, build or hang shelves, grout stuff, install weather
stripping or the whole door, take apart the coffeemaker and put it
in the dishwashing machine (yes, it CAN be done! You just leave out
the electronics and element plate) and am highly likely to lust
after a power tool collection. I can do regular maintenance on my
truck, but have no clue how to fix it, nor any desire to change a
tire given the choice - I can, but I don't wanna. I do a lot of
arts and crafts. I don't paint very well, but I like to do
leatherwork, ceramics, beadwork, make jewelry and a bunch of other
stuff.
I've never had a motorcycle - but I want one. Not a racing style
bike, but only because leaning forward for long periods, like they
require, would be uncomfortable. And I want to learn to fix it,
too.
I want to go to a whole host of places. I spent 2 years in Germany
while I was in the Army and would dearly love to go back there. My
roommate and I joke about a beer tour of Europe (American beer -
excepting Widmer - resembles piss water more closely than beer). I
want to get my pilot's license, learn to scuba dive, hang glide and
jump out of perfectly good airplanes - bungee jumping, though,
sounds like a really dumb idea.
I'm interested in people in any form and fashion... which makes me
a terrible nerd who perks up at the mention of archaeology,
anthropology, psychology, religion and health issues. Other happy
topics are astronomy, astrology, religious metaphysics &
philosophy, herbology, aromatherapy, history (especially ancient -
I'm actually nerd enough to think of an archeological dig as a
vacation possibility) and politics are always fun topics, though I
hold some views that don't mesh with the pigeon holes people keep
wanting to stick me into - people with liberal social ideas
shouldn't also have conservative ones, I know... too stinking bad.
(Yes, I'm aware that that was a horrible run on and I sound just
like that in person).
I like to cook and garden, though no gardening since I moved to
Aridzona. I know how to accomodate for the conditions, but it's a
LOT of work and it's SO freaking hot out there and I'm too cheap to
hang a shade screen over the garden. When I cook, I use real
butter, whole milk, never any sugar substitutes and as few products
with high fructose corn syrup as possible - it's in EVERYTHING!!! I
read product labels. I think you should always know what you're
putting in your body - even if you don't care (though, if you look
around you, you'll see why you should).
I should confess here that I know what a zocchihedron and a
dodecahedron are and what they're used for; I've been a GM who
earned three adjectives and was known to some people as GoD
(Gamemaster of Death - I have a knack for rolling natural 20s,
which means instant, unressurectable death). And I know, as well,
what Evercrack is. I am such a nerd.
Note: I like kilts on men. For any number of reasons.
What I'm doing with my life Propose an edit
Studying, studying and more studying. Damn, I'm boring. No, I'm
not. My life is.
I'm getting my degrees in psychology and religious studies; I may
also pick up a BA in Anthropology while I'm in grad school - I'll
have most of the classes, so why not? I'm involved with the school
and several groups on campus including one I helped start to get
students involved in current events and topics of interest to
students. I'm kinda focused on school and earning a living.
I don't really have much time for a relationship and am not really
looking for one. If it happens, it happens. But, I have a life and
friends who love me. I'm here for the socializing and people
watching. And the tests. And the questions. And now, my friends;
can never have too many friends. Here, I get exposed to interesting
people with a wide variety of experience and ideas. I don't always
agree but, that's what makes it interesting.
I'm going to get that evil philosopher for addicting me to
answering questions.
I'm really good at Propose an edit
Studying. And Real
Estate. And writing. And gardening, though I'm not at the
moment. And cooking. Oh! and annoying people. And...
ummm.. I AM studying Psychology... I mentioned that, right?
Ideas - I'm an ideas person. They're very annoying. My friends
aren't sure if they're a good thing or a bad thing, though. They
like it well enough when it comes to problem solving, but it
aggravates the crap out of them if they just want to bitch/whine
about it.
And talking. I'm sure you didn't notice, though.
The first thing(s) people usually notice about me Propose an edit
My sparkling personality... and my smart mouth.
My favorite books, movies, music, and food Propose an edit
I read Religious Philosophy for
fun. And sci-fi/fantasy. I listen to a variety of music but tend to
prefer rock from the past 40 years or so (some of that Led Zepplin
and Tull is great even if they were before my time!). I can't stand
rap or reggae (for reasons I'll get into if asked); and jazz tends
to annoy me.
On tv: House, Law & Order (all varieties), CSI (all varieties),
Eureka, Dresden Files & Firefly (til they were cancelled), The
Daily Show, The Colbert Report, Countdown, most stand up. And,
ummm... almost anything on Discovery, Science or TLC that doesn't
have to do with home decorating or babies (those are just boring).
In the movie section I tend to prefer sci-fi, action and horror.
And... ummm... zombie movies...and... err...*looks guilty* b-movie
schlock. I have a definite distaste for most movies commonly termed
as, "chick flicks." If it's a tear-jerker, I probably don't want to
see it.
Food? My own cooking, mostly. Unfortunately. I love cheese -
particularly the mild or creamy ones, but sharp ones not so much.
I'll eat Mexican any time for any meal. I'm allergic to
shellfish/crustaceans/mollusks and won't eat marine animals of any
sort. Sea vegetables may be a different story, never tried them. I
like bbq of any sort and am developing a fondness for Greek food
(to the point where I'm learning to cook it). I like moderate spicy
- more than that and I can't taste the food, though. Oh! And I
loathe mushrooms. And most sweet meat dishes. That's why I cook. My
roommate (who cooks) recently noted that just hearing the list,
you'd think I was a picky eater, but within my limits I'm actually
rather easy to please and willing to try new things.
The six things I could never do without Propose an edit
Books, sunshine, place to live, laughter, writing implements... and
ummm... lessee... cat fur? No... I could probably live without
that, though it's hard to imagine. A computer with internet
connection... this sort of stuff is addictive, isn't it?
I spend a lot of time thinking about Propose an edit
What the heck people were thinking! Come to that - what ARE they
thinking?
And astronomy, that's fun to think about. But, then I need to start
writing down what I'm thinking so I try to limit those lines of
thought.
And architecture, but then I start drawing floor plans, so that's
another controlled substance for me. If you really want to make me
happy, ask me about straw bale housing =)!
*Whaaah haaa haaah!!* I am such a nerd... . Ok, I'm done now.
Oh, and for the other Virgos out there: on a scale of 1-10, I'm
about a 6 or 7 on the neat freak scale. I can tolerate a reasonable
amount of chaos, though I don't really care for it. The Universe
decided I needed some tolerance and took steps to ensure that I
developed it.
On a typical Friday night I am Propose an edit
Being horribly boring. Or not. I may be annoying people online. Or
at one of the local comedy clubs if I have ticket money in the
budget. Maybe I bullied my roommate to a movie against her will. Or
tempted my Russian friend with symphony tickets (when they're
playing). Or been dragged kicking and screaming to my
philosophizing friend's guitar gigs. It varies.
The most private thing I'm willing to admit here Propose an edit
My cats own me.
You should message me if Propose an edit
You have a sense of humor and don't take yourself seriously. On the
other hand you should probably take yourself seriously enough to
treat yourself with respect. I do answer every message I get...
eventually... and if your English is particularly bad or spammy, I
critique it, too. A public service, you understand.
I clicked "Activity Partners" on because I think it might be fun to
get together sometimes with a few people and go places (for
instance, the State Fair, or organize a day trip to Sedona or any
of the myriad of events happening withing the Phoenix Metro area -
you know... socialize!). I can and will coordinate the event if
people are actually interested in doing these sorts of things.
Please DO NOT message me if you're looking for a hook-up, I didn't
activate "Casual Encounters (Sex Partners)." Not judging, but it's
not MY thing.
I'm one of the few people who like the new IM. I don't have to
remember to turn it off every time I log on. I am not IMable unless
you're on my Favorites list. If you are, and you know it, then I've
already aplogized for not responding in advance if I'm not at the
keyboard. I have no clue how to respond to, "Woos." So, I
don't.
Oh, and if you've gotten this far, I suppose I should tell you what
the screen name means. It was SUPPOSED to be, "Need a Flashlight?"
but OKC didn't like that and won't let me (that I've been able to
figure out) change it. People have been coming to me since I was
little looking for help with their problems, so I've got a good
collection of flashlights for people to borrow.
