Update: Now traveling Shanghai, Beijing, Tokyo, Oslo, and Berlin for the next few months.

Before that it was NYC. Recently escapee of grad school, West Coast transplant (LA, SD, OC). Ex-Marine, freelance theatre director, all around rascal and vagabond. I was born on the East Coast (Philly), grew up in NJ (Wash. Twp.), then moved to SD, college in the OC, and lived in LA. I've spent almost half my life in Southern California, and the other half in the Northeast (including a stop in New Haven) before starting my life over again here in NY.

I'm sarcastic, opinionated, fairly intelligent, ambitious and funny. Obviously, I have incredibly low self-esteem. But seriously, I'm of the opinion that life is a ride and it should be a fun one. I'm far too practical for my own good and try and loosen up as much as possible. I love drinking and dancing and spending time out with my friends who I don't see nearly enough. I'm blessed with some of the most amazing friends Nature could ever create, and I'm always looking to make more. I'm the guy who brings the random people to the party and gets them talking. I like bringing people together (cliche alert!!!) but I like the idea of mash-up art (theatrical fusion of different forms) and do the same in my social life. I'm not an isolationist when it comes to my friends - stick around long enough, and you'll meet them and become part of the family. That's how it works with me.

My friend Dan puts it thusly: "We tend to idle poorly."

So I cram in as much as I can. Nobody ever said on their deathbed,"Man, I wish I would've slept more."

Loves:traveling, theatre, movies, arts, sports (basketball & football), swing dancing, tango, dancing, music, Springsteen, scotch, and little pets that jump on your head.

Dislikes: boredom, insanity, stupid people, country music, liars.

discovering life in NYC. Riding the Love Train. Whatever is coming my way. Hey, this is it - the beginning of my Big Apple Saga. They say life begins at 30; I'm just starting the next chapter. Which seems to involve being open to anything, meeting a ton of new people, going on crazy adventures (like hiking Machu Picchu or backpacking the Great Wall of China), and other insanity like that.

UPDATE: apparently, the first thing people notice about me is that (duh!) I'm Asian. Then they try and guess what kind.

Books: F. Scott Fitzgerald, Shakespeare, Artaud, Genet, Hemingway, Whitman, A.Tuan, N. Iizuka, Jessica Hagedorn, DHH...ok, so they're really playwrights, but they're really good...and now that I'm out of grad school, I'm totally open to any books people recommend to me. UPDATE: Just read THE AMAZING ADVENTURES OF KAVALIER AND CLAY (phenomenal), THE WIND UP BIRD CHRONICLES (also amazing) and am in the middle of THE MASTER AND MARGARITA (like whoa.) UPDATE of the UPDATE: currently reading "The Audacity of Hope"...interesting, but not riveting.

movies/directors: kurosawa, mendes, wong kar wai, scorsese (martin and sofia), casablanca, in the mood for love, fallen angels, star wars (the first/original 3), american beauty, city of god, eternal sunshine, braveheart, do the right thing, spike lee (ok, early spike, but 25th hour was good), michael mann (yes, he's a hack, but his movies are gorgeous), luis bunuel, shall we dance (the original japanese version), belle du jour, fellini, la dolce vida, cuaron, y tu mama tambien

out with my friends, seeing a show, and general hell-raising with a dash of rambunctiousness. I'm now amending this. After working so much (I now have a full-time day job and have been in rehearsal for the last two-three months, so I have to admit it: I just go home after it's all over. The tank is empty, to be re-filled so that Saturday can happen.

I am living the dream. Sshh. Don't tell anyone.
