My Notes edit
My self-summary
Maybe I'd better write something else...
I'm a complete jack-of-all-trades, and will try anything once*. I do lots of normal things, like playing sports, going to the pub and watching the footie...and some more unusual ones, when I get the chance. I'd rather be outdoors than indoors, unless the weather's really bad.
The outdoors thing includes a bit of hiking when I get the chance. I really wish I could make it over to the Peaks more often. I also like going to new places - while I've never done the proper "take a year off and see the world" thing, I've slowly covered much of Europe in short trips. Damn work and limited time off!
I'm sociable, with a wide circle of friends...who are mostly attached, of course. Meeting new people rocks my world, and I tend to get on with almost anyone. I'm open-minded, and far too honest for my own good.
When I was six, I wanted to be a Concorde pilot.
When I was eight, I wanted to be a palaeontologist.
Fact.
* Except incest, alcohol-free lager and buggery.
What I'm doing with my life
My friends and interests mean much more to me than my career path.
In my spare time, I'm a technical author.
I'm really good at
Playing hockey, badminton and squash. Okay, maybe more "quite good" than "really good".
Cooking. Eating. Drinking. Often all at once.
Scrabble. Apostrophe's ;o)
The first thing(s) people usually notice about me
"I think I noticed that everyone likes you. As in you have lots of friends. And no-one would ever have anything bad to say about you. I know that can't be noticed in an instant, but pretty soon."
I honestly cannot imagine how she couldn't have noticed my ravishingly good looks and witty repartee...
My favorite books, movies, music, and food
I had a mis-spent youth reading science fiction and fantasy, so the Lord of the Rings is right up there, as well as anything by Terry Pratchett or Isaac Asimov.
I don't get much time for reading these days, so generally stick to the literary equivalent of Burt Bacharach - Bill Bryson, Dave Gorman and the like, with a sprinkling of Michael Palin and Stephen Fry.
(b) MOVIES
Some. I'm not exactly Barry Norman.
My favourites are, in no particular order, Delicatessen, the LoTR trilogy, and Amélie. The Goonies has to be up there too, along with Star Wars. I've just seen Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, but haven't decided whether it's quite good enough to be up there with the best!
I do tend to like a very wide range of films, though - anything apart from politically minded diatribe and chick flicks, really.
(c) MUSIC
I'm a bit of a indie kid at heart. Favourite bands/artists include Blur, Mansun and The Manic Street Preachers.
While I'm not the sort who defines himself by what's on his iPod (if I had an iPod), I cannot stand hip-hop, RnB, garage, etc.
Recent purchases have included KT Tunstall (well, her album, anyway), Belle & Sebastian and The Stone Roses. And the Arctic Monkeys, 'cos I'm not a sheep at all. Honest.
I try and make it to gigs every so often - I'd much rather be jumping around at the front than tapping my foot at the back.
(d) FOODS
I LOVE FOOD.
Favourites include curry (of course!) and Malaysian/Thai-style stuff. Italian food gets a look-in, too, of course, as does sushi when I get the chance.
Fine British pub food is highly underrated, I reckon - a good Sunday roast or steak and kidney pie is a wondrous thing!
I love trying new dishes...but I am on the carnivorous side.
I'm also a half-decent cook (no-one's ever died from my cooking...yet), and will happily spend a relaxing evening in the kitchen with just my hot wok for company ;o)
The six things I could never do without
* I don't know what I'm doing living in Manchester, either. It's fun, though!
I spend a lot of time thinking about
On a typical Friday night I am
This may include much drinking before heading on to a grotty indie club (usually 5th Ave or 42s). Or the Fabulous Caf. Or TigerLounge. And then dancing like a badly coordinated spider on acid. But with fewer limbs.
Allegedly.
The most private thing I'm willing to admit here
You should message me if
* Usual stipulations apply, of course. No incest, alcohol-free lager or buggery please. Oh, and Scientologists need not apply ;o)
