Chapter 1, In Which Context Is Established.
---
Grab me for a coffee, conversation, more if that works (or just instead, if that's what you're after), or no more otherwise.
Surprise yourself, it'll be worth it.

Upfront: Life has thrown a few challenges at me recently, I'm stepping into this a bit tentatively and making no promises. Give me a try if you'd enjoy just going out on a date and it's okay with you that I may not make myself properly available (thanks for all the "likes" people, but go ahead, take the plunge, say hello). Seriously, just a coffee could be fun, go for it. Curling up and watching a movie would be awesome, but at least try for a coffee :-)

Chapter 2, An Introduction.
---
I enthuse, that's what I do, I'm an enthusiast.

I love working with my hands. Unusual things. I crochet and sew and 3D print and do metalwork and program and generally design and scheme a lot. I don't have much to show for it, but it's what I really enjoy and I always have a dozen projects in my head or on the boil.

I love languages but I only speak two and a smattering of words from others.
I love musical instruments, the technicalities fascinate me, but I don't play any especially well.
I talk for hours when it's going well, but I flounder badly when I'm not on a wavelength with someone.
I'm generaly offbeat, sociable, and... an introvert at heart. Crowds and noise are fun for a while but ultimately they weary me. What I really enjoy is an interesting event, exploring places by foot, or a relaxed atmosphere with a small group or just one other person.
I'm trying to control myself here but I generally use too many emoticons.

Chapter 3, Mostly Whitespace.

It's to emphasise the above, and make the point that the below stuff only applies if you're interested by now.

What I’m doing with my life
I'm lucky enough to work in science and research, with video and professional photography. Corporate research is like being a full-time paid student, only with more paperwork (I write a lot of patents, which I enjoy actually), and I take the nerd attitude pretty seriously.

I've travelled a lot recently - the last few months have seen me at a conference in Portland (Oregon, US), on holiday across Scandinavia, visiting relatives in Poland, and a friend in mainland China.
I’m really good at
Various things you'll discover if we meet.
The first things people usually notice about me
The beard and glasses I guess. It's not like I wear bottomless chaps or glow in the dark or anything.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
I was once a real bookworm... I should read more.

TV: I'll watch it if Stephen Fry is in it.

I can talk cinema for hours; I have some knowledge of highbrow stuff, lots of enthusiasm for the usual popular stuff (esp. Pixar, Ghibli), and a deep abiding love for whatever you call what Joss Whedon does.

I'm into all kinds of music with a bias to either pop or the eclectic. I have pretty firm opinions about how amazing Philip Glass is.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Girls. Hence this profile.

Figuring out how to play tunes on piano or cello or encode them on a punch-card to play on my programmable music box.
On a typical Friday night I am
An empty essay, waiting for you to fill me out.
I’m looking for
  • Girls who like guys
  • Ages 24–38
  • Near me
  • Who are single
  • For long-term dating, short-term dating
You should message me if
I sound like someone you'd like to catch up with in person. Face-to-face. Offline. Meatspace, not cyberspace.
