I always begin conversations by asking people if they by any chance happen to have six fingers on their right hand. Only don't tell me you're innocent, because it insults my intelligence and makes me very angry. You know, I didn't come out of some cereal box. I believe that sometimes nothin' can be a real cool hand. I would commit treason against my own self. But they're not gonna catch me-- I'm on a mission from God. I’ve got friends in every town and village from here to the Sudan, I speak a dozen languages, know every local custom, I'll blend in, disappear. Although when I'm dead and buried, all I'll leave behind are some shower curtain rings that didn't fall down. I’ve been on double secret probation. All they found of me was a muddy set of prison clothes, a bar of soap, and an old rock hammer, damn near worn down to the nub. But I don't roll on Shabbos, under any circumstances. And frankly my dear, I don't give a damn.

What are any of us doing with our lives, man? ...I guess one thing I do is ask vague, existential questions.

Not taking things too seriously if I can help it. But sometimes I can't help it.

Usually that I seem quiet and smart and helpful. But after that, they notice that my mild-mannered exterior hides a sarcastic smartass underneath it.

I think I indirectly covered my taste in movies pretty well in my "About Me" section. So there's that.

I like a lot of books, mostly non-fiction, but my favorite novels are Crime & Punishment and Don Quixote (nothing beats a book thick enough to beat someone with).

I'm not too picky about food. I've never had anything too spicy, and I've certainly tried. I can generally take or leave sweets, but I go nuts for anything maple-flavored. I enjoy cooking, and I've gotten to be halfway decent at it, I think (although considering my own generous standards, maybe I'm not the best judge).

My favorite musician is Bob Dylan, and I generally like older music, like classic rock, blues, even a little folk, and the occasional bit of bluegrass. I should have been around in the '60s, man. (Far out. Groovy.)

My watch, coffee, big glasses of cold water, my guitars, being nice to people, time to let my mind wander aimlessly.

Lots of things, ranging from the profoundly mundane to the heroically boring. Sometimes I spend half a day thinking about odd things, like whether or not the philosophical concept of atomic materialism necessitates a belief in fatalism (I think it does), or whether it's worse to feel guilty or powerless (like is the phrase "there's nothing you can do about it" a mild comfort, or something really depressing?). ...I'm tons of fun like that.

I'm not sure if I have typical Friday nights.

Probably that if I sent you a message, it's because I'm genuinely interested in getting to know you. That's not that private, though. I'm pretty straightforward like that.
