My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
I've been off this site for over a year. Interesting to see some of the same people still here. Interesting to see how my answers to some of the questions have shifted.

I like books, bikes, movies, dogs, gardens, trees, meadows, wild and windy shores, unfancy travel, farmers markets, and Scrabble. I like men who make me laugh (although I do a good deal of that on my own), think about big things, notice the small things, and value kindness. I like people who are curious. I love conversation and doing nothing in particular with good people.

I was born in the Sacramento Valley, up against the foothills of the Sierras. I love the mountains. Used to ride a horse everywhere -- you could pretty much sum up my youth as horseback riding and reading. I went to Ohio for college and wound up staying in Cleveland for the next 30 years. I moved here in Sept. 2012, a year after my second marriage ended to live near my daughter and her babies.

I make a living as a writer. I write about science and other cool stuff for magazines, trying to make the complicated guts of the world fascinating. My third book was published last year and it's about life in the soil -- just so you know, there are a zillion microbes busily sequestering carbon under your feet.

My life is good. I've made an amazing number of new friends here in Portland and almost don't miss my great, hilarious, brilliant friends back in Cleveland.

About you: Looking for that sweet spot in the Venn diagram where chemistry and compatibility overlap. I would like a partner again, a sweetheart and lover and companion. Someone who enjoys a community of friends and family, who likes putting together great meals and eating/talking/laughing/exploring big ideas with others. Someone who doesn't need me around all the time, but who feels life is richer with me in it.
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
Still trying to get to know Portland-- only been here three years. And still working. I don't think writers are allowed to retire.
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
Listening. Noticing. Learning new things.
The first things people usually notice about me
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
Who knows? I was sitting with a male friend at a bar a few years ago and another guy walked by and said, "You the man! She's gorgeous!" But honestly, I think he was pretty drunk. Or maybe I paid him to say that and then forgot.

The six things I could never do without
Think outside the box. Sometimes the little things can say a lot.
I would like to think I couldn't do without anything; I like to travel light. But I treasure my two dogs -- they shepherded me (pun intended) through a bleak stretch, my daughter, my friends.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
Tramps like us!

That made me google Bruce and saw this sweet video. Instead of Courtney Cox, he brings out his mother and sister:
On a typical Friday night I am
Netflix and takeout, or getting your party on — how do you let loose?
I don't even have a typical Friday morning. I'm often unaware that it IS Friday. That's what happens when you're a freelancer.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
I groan inwardly when I hear the word "barista."

I'm only interested in men who live in or very near Portland, who are over 50, and who like/d their mothers.
