Enthusiastic, sensitive, and thoughtful citizen of the world.
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
Rediscovering, re-evaluating, re-engaging and renewing. Still a work in progress.
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
lots of little things. And some big ones, too: caring, sharing, nurturing, loving. On the practical side, I cook, make a great cup o' joe, do laundry, make my bed and take the lead on the dance floor.

So much culture to experience and absorb and so little time...!

Not so much television, though I will admit Saturday Night Live is a longtime guilty pleasure. Also a BIG fan of Mad Men, Colbert Report and Daily Show. Enjoyed The Bridge. Recently discovered FX's Gotham and You're the Worst!.

Radio is my true passion. I could listen to NPR, APM and PRI (and public radio anywhere in the world) and never be bored. Fresh Air and Studio 360 are must-listens! And recently discovered "Off-Ramp" and "Bullseye with Jesse Thorn."

Musical tastes run the gamut from rock and Latin grooves to jazz and blues. I've been fortunate to see and hear many great musical artists over the years, including a number now deceased. And wouldn't miss a show by The Boss. Of course, coming of age in the late '70s and early '80s, I'm into all kinds of danceable pop music. I'll take a Michael Jackson hit any day.

I've long been a cinema buff, especially foreign films. You''ll find me at film festivals on any given weekend and/or AFI Silver, Avalon Theatre, National Gallery of Art, West End Cinemas, and embassy cultural institutes.

Theater also is a passion and delight. DC is blessed with an embarrassment of riches when it comes to live theater and I regularly make a point to attend.

I'm reading more these days and making good use of my library card. Always surprised by the wonderful books I find without much effort. Also a devotee of Politics & Prose for the literature and music, as well as the readings. Nothing matches the tactile sensation of holding a book and turning its pages (well, almost nothing...).

Food, ah, glorious food! My palate is wide open to numerous tastes, textures and ingredients. While I do not eat pork, I have yet to let go of my cravings for mollusks. I enjoy reading about food, shopping the farmers markets, cooking, eating and even cleaning up afterwards. Preferred cuisines include Belgian, Ethiopian, Italian, Indian, Japanese, Korean, Latin American and Vietnamese. And after many years in DC, I relish the vastly improved offerings on all fronts.
The six things I could never do without
Think outside the box. Sometimes the little things can say a lot.
Beyond the essentials (clean air, potable water, shelter), tasty food (including dark chocolate), fine wine, strong coffee, enjoyable music, good lovin', and arts & culture (collectively).
And, of course, my kids.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
my children, the state of the world, global warming AND climate change, the importance of social justice. And ways I may make a difference.
On a typical Friday night I am
Netflix and takeout, or getting your party on — how do you let loose?
winding down the end of a week. Might be attending a musical or cultural event. Or cooking together and enjoying dinner by candlelight. All depends upon the occasion and the company.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
is that the most private thing is just that: a private thing.
