My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
I grew up just outside of Boston (yay Red Sox fans) and went to college in New York before moving out to California for grad school over 3 years ago. Very much a New Englander at heart, but I feel at home here in the Bay Area too.

Environmental and social causes are really important to me. I've helped tutor or teach kids in various subject for years, and recently taught intro to photography classes to middle schooler from economically disadvantaged communities in the bay area. It was an amazing experience to be able to open a child's life to a new form of expression and help grow their confidence that their ideas are worth listening to.

I'm very much an extrovert, and love the outdoors, telling stories, good puns, coming up with fitting names for things, and making people laugh.

In a partner I really value kindness, sense of humor, a love of the outdoors/nature, and spontenaity.
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
I have a great job as an engineer at a green building design firm in Oakland that specializes in creating comfortable, energy efficient, yet equally affordable buildings.

On weekends I try to go hiking with friends in all the wonderful parks in the Bay Area or in San Francisco for some great "urban hiking." I also like rock climbing, and will never turn down a chance to kayak (whitewater or sea kayaking).

Over the past year I took up guitar, and I'm finally getting the point where I can hold my own when playing with other people. I'm very excited about this.

My friends and family surprised me a couple years ago by all pitching in to get me a really nice camera, now I can't imagine my life without it. I'm not a gifted drawer by any means, so it's been cool to have an artistic outlet. If you are at all interested, here's my flickr page.
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
This make me a bit uncomfortable. That being said, some things I think I'm pretty decent at are: photography, rock climbing, kayaking, working with my hands, math, baseball, story telling, making appetizers with cheese, improvising, Bananagrams, and getting you to laugh.
The first things people usually notice about me
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
I've never actually asked anyone. Maybe that I'm a bit tall, smile a lot, and am pretty enthusiastic.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food

Music wise, some of my favorite bands right now are The Tallest Man on Earth, Cat Power, and The Avett Brothers. Weirdly enough though one of my favorite genres is grunge. I go through phases...

As for books, two of my favorites I've read recently are The Amazing Adventures of Cavalier & Clay and The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao. Also, full disclosure: total Harry Potter fan. Thought you should know.

TV wise, I usually like comedies. I'll always watch an episode of Scrubs and love Parks and Rec.

I'll watch any movie that isn't gory or horror. A great movie I saw recently was Assasination of a High School President.
The six things I could never do without
Think outside the box. Sometimes the little things can say a lot.
Family and friends
Nature (mountains and oceans)
People who inspire me
My Camera
Nights spent in with good company
Fresh produce (and possibly cheese)

I wouldn't want to have to go without good IPA's either, but I would survive.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
Beyond the usual (the future, romance, etc), I do spend a fair amount of time thinking about what I'm going to eat next, why Taboo is such an awesome game, and how I can get myself to South America or the Himalayas
On a typical Friday night I am
Netflix and takeout, or getting your party on — how do you let loose?
Hanging out with friends sharing a drink or two after a long work week, or heading out on a hiking/camping trip for the weekend.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
I actually still really enjoy collecting rocks and shells at the beach...
