Books: Well I started really reading with Harry Potter, read some
Marry Higgins Clarks books, RA Salvitor does great high fantasy,
enjoying Jim Buther at present (dresden files, magic meets
detective story, very interesting). TA Baron had a good series
about Merlin (or well was good when I read it in middle school).
1984 by George Orwell. Other than that I enjoy a lot of Japanese
comics (not so much the american variety... mostly because I cant
stand the constant retellings of characters, jeezus there have been
so many retellings no one knows who the characters really are
anymore) Let me add Salinger and Vohnegut to my list of favorite
authors.
I've decided Catcher in the Rye is one of my favorite Books. I know
a lot of people consider Holden to be a rather whiny protagonist,
but if you ask me, he's a brilliant portrait of a boy dealing with
very real issues that many of us have at some point grappled with
in our own lives, and all he's trying to do is reach out for
answers and help. If you want a much better wording of what I'm
trying to say go listen to John Green talk about it on youtube. I
cant help but feel sorry for Holden, he's a nice enough kid just
reaching out for any sort of human connection, shunned at every
turn too.
I havent read any of Vonneguts works other than the short story
Harrison Bergeron... but that story will stick with me forever. I'd
describe it as a masterpiece, and thinking about it makes me wonder
what I've been so busy with that I havent managed to go shell out
the money for his other works. I have to get on that.
Books I didnt enjoy: Anything by John Steinbeck, as "prolific" as
people claim his work to be, I think he is absolutely abysmal! He's
the only auther who has ever earned the dishonor of having a book
of his become a "bathroom book" I've never read anything more dry
and pointless than his work. The Pearl in particular was so very
horrible, a novela I was forced to read in 7th or 8th grade, and
even then I thought it was shit. The whole premise revolved around
excessive greed. The whole thing felt unnatural.
Anything by Ray Bradbury: On the Chopping block next is Farenheight
451, other than being dry, this book suffers from characters who
have absolutely no depth of personality, the only character that
anyone cared about died in chapter three (I think, been a while
since I've read it) no wounder when it was adapted into a play they
decided to deus ex machina her into the ending, and pretend she
never died to begin with.
Lord of the Flies: Horribly unrealistic. No offense but little
fricken kids scared shitless on an island are not going to follow
the kid who says "No one will come to save us, we're on our own
now" when another kid of good standing says "If we keep this fire
lit we can all go home" Granted kids are short sighted, but that
was utterly insane, facing a world they feared every day existance
in, or the option of everything returned to normal... not exactly a
hard leap to figure out which one sounds better to them.
Movies:
The Princess Bride is an alltime clasic, Zombie land, 28 days
later, Mystery Men, Meet the parents, Inception, Momento?(cant
remember the name for sure, had to do with a guy who had lost his
memory his wife was killed yata yata very good) That one with Johny
Depth that I can never remember the name of,... something like 7th
or 9th gate? Anything by Shinkai. He makes such amazing tragic
romances, and I dont even tend to like those. He produced 5cms per
second, The place promised in our early days, and Voices from a
distant star. How to train your dragon, Anastasia, Megamind,
Starwars (all of them though i like the "last" three best, aka
4,5,6).
Shows: Dont watch much Tv but I watch a lot of anime, in particular
trigun, and full metal alchemist are two of the better ones. The
walking Dead though is my current obsession. Watched most of
heroes. However I wish they had stopped it sooner. I'll also adimt
I'm a total Csi junkie, could watch those for hours straight if I
had to. Shit tottaly almost left out Doctor Who, such a great show.
Little too family oriented sometimes, but I love it to death still.
Grew up watching star trek as well. Ya know what, pretty much
anything on scifi channel.
Music: I love Rock, all forms soft, clasical, newer stuff, harder
stuff, hell even metal. I also have a great respect for clasical
and Jazz, however I Hate Rap and country. In particular I'm really
digging Cage the Elephant, Mummford and sons, Metalica, stone sour,
Flyleaf, Evanessence, 30 seconds from mars, shine down, Disturbed,
Nine inch nails, Stone temple pilots, Smashing pumpkins. More
recently I've been loving Fun, The Neon Trees, White Stripes, the
Black Keys, Adele, Flourance and the Machine, of Monsters and
men.
Games: Well, for starters I own a 360, my games of choice are rpg
or fantasy style. However I am getting better at fps since well...
look at all there has been lately. Some of my all time favorite
games across the ages are: Ledgend of Zelda Ocarina of Time, Loz:
Majora's mask, Mario games (seriously name one, I've played it and
loved it). Final Fantasy, in particular X is my favorite with
11,12,13 being some of my least favorites. Bioshock (such a great
twist) Tales of Symphonia, Prototype, Fallout (despite having very
similar mechanics I like fallout far more than I like oblivion...
not sure why.). Star Fox games (64 in particular, such bad voice
acting... such memorable voice acting.). The DS also holds one of
my absolute favorite titles. "The World Ends with You" I most
litteraly didnt do anything but eat and sleep for.... 4 days? due
to how addicted I was to this game. And no... thats not normal, I
dont normaly get so caught up in something. Also loved Fire Emblem,
Advanced wars, and Castelvania.
Pencil and Paper games: Well, I started playing with version 3.5 of
Dungeons and Dragons way back in elementary school. I develped a
rather large appreciation fo the system, yes it had its flaws but
it was very well balanced, and presented a much more in depth
character creation process than its descendant known as 4.0. Since
the dawn of 4.0 I've been getting into stuff produced by white
wolf, they do world of darkness, its a d10 based system. I enjoy it
for the fact that its VERY simple to teach new players. My absolute
favorite system though is known as Champions... its an older system
that hasnt gotten much publicity. D&D and white wolf can be
commonly found on any bookstore... Champions, not so much. Its
normaly a special order... but it provides the most in depth
character creation, it gives you the choice of EVERYTHING. I dont
think theres a type of character I couldnt easily build.
As for food, I'm not picky.
