My self-summary
What's in a name... there are worse things in life than being called a "hipster" but I don't identify as one. I may occasionally wear something that appears "hip" or go see an upcoming band, but I see many many many bands, and well, that's enough talk about hipsters! If only I could change my username... but how many of us are in that boat?

I'm a Chicago native, music-a-holic, netflix watching, generally silly guy who enjoys good conversation and company above all else. Go out? Stay in? Fine with both.

Someone asked me why I signed up for OKC. It was a number of things but the predominant one was just to see if/how it works. I'm sure not everyone is completely honest with their responses, but it can be a better starting point than "hello random stranger I just happened to meet!" Plus, "hitting" on people does make you feel kind of like a creep sometimes. :)

I work at a small local business and see the same four guys day in and day out. Not a whole lot of meeting people going on for me outside of bars these days.

This is my first experience here i realize from the outset that it's a *flawed* system, like anything else. Sometimes the questions you're forced to answer could go either way so I'm trying to keep an open mind when viewing someone's profile and I'd hope you'd do the same for me. It's the sum not the parts.

This lengthy salvo is also a tip off that I can ramble on and on upon occasion!
What I’m doing with my life
I've been the type to just let things come my way in life but am learning more and more that you have to go out and get what you want. I'm currently a jack of all trades at a vintage guitar shop doing some web stuff, photography, copy writing and whatever else needs to be done on a given day.
I’m really good at
I'm the artsy type so I tend to endlessly analyze things: music, movies, design. This can drive some people crazy but I find these types of conversations very engaging! I promise I'm fun despite this habbit to disect things.

I love writing songs and playing music but I wish I had more time and energy to spend on visual art.
The first things people usually notice about me
Physically, I'm pretty consistently told by complete strangers that I have "nice eyes."
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
I'll start with the music because that's closest to my heart. I love smaller club shows (Emtpy Bottle, Schubas, Quenchers, Lincoln Hall, SubT) and generally skip the festivals. I'm all about local and DIY bands. The bigger names: The Kinks, Nick Cave, Sonic Youth, Califone, Olivia Tremor Control, Velvet Underground, early Rolling Stones, Andrew Bird, Greenhornes, Sam Cooke, Hacienda, The Animals, Leonard Cohen, Giant Sand, Sleater-Kinney, Stephen Malkmus, Black Keys, Beach Boys, Black Mountain/Pink Mountaintops, Fugazi, Bo Diddley, Boris, Braid, Jawbreaker, Dead Meadow, Queens of the Stone Age, PJ Harvey, Dungen, Elvis Costello, Flaming Lips, Godpseed You Black Emperor, Low, Mark Lanegan, The Jesus Lizard, Stooges, TVotR, The Who.... I think you get the idea by how bands I listed that I devour music.

I like film in the same way I like bands, that's to say by film makers. Coen Brothers, Stanley Kubrick, Wes Anderson... I appreciate style but I can enjoy anything if it's well put together. This includes anything from old Buster Keaton films all the way to Pinapple Express. I just saw "His Girl Friday" and it shot right to the top of my favorite films.

When i watch TV it's usually PBS or the polar opposite, like It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia. Parks & Rec might be my only "can't miss" show. Oh yeah, and Craig Ferguson, Craig Ferguson, Craig Ferguson, Craig Ferguson and Craig Ferguson.

If you've read a comic book or "graphic novel" +10 points! I grew up as the art nerd, partially thanks to comics. Now I occasionally read TPB collections. Right now I'm working on "Y: The Last Man."
The six things I could never do without
-friends and late night convo
-records/music
-hot water
-city life/stuff to do
-sunny days
-savory foods
I spend a lot of time thinking about
The places I want to visit! I haven't gotten around as much as I'd hoped. Having friends around is all I really need to be happy though so I'm not sweating it! Can't you just feel the love?
On a typical Friday night I am
Probably in a bar, hopefully one with a band, but am just as often at home watching a movie. It's a really good night if you also squeeze in a decent meal. If I treat myself in life it's usually with food.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
It's not private but...... people always give me a hard time for not being an animal lover. My older brother was allergic to anything deemed "cute" so I've never had pets.
I’m looking for
  • Girls who like guys
  • Ages 27–34
  • Near me
  • Who are single
  • For new friends, long-term dating, short-term dating
You should message me if
You're single! I like low-pressure type first dates, or not even calling them dates. The internet can only tell you so much about a person so let's see if we can have a good awkward first date as opposed to a bad awkward first date. :)

If you make stuff, you should definitely contact me. I used to be pretty good at arguing, but I've tired of that. I'm more into talking about making stuff!

If you can be silly, and you're down hanging with someone else who is.

You probably SHOULDN'T contact me if:
you go "tanning," listen to dave matthews or dispatch, or think getting drunk is an activity in and of itself.
