My Notes edit

My self-summary

Because I've never been too good at writing about myself (despite being A.) a writer and B.) somewhat pretentious and self-centered) I'm simply going to provide you with a list of random things about me.
You ready?

The Short of It

I love:
ART. Music. Theatre. Books. Really old books. Writing. Going on walks. Stars. Flowers (red roses and stargazer lilies). Animals (my cats). Sarcasm. Good movies. The ocean. Hugs. Coffee. Rain. Quick wits and sharp tongues. Poetry. Green tea. Shakespeare. Being right. Singing. Red wine. Good pens (seriously, they're vastly underrated). California. Cigarettes. Lying on the floor. Photography. Dancing. Great lighting. Humor. Museums. The city. Knowledge and intellect. ee cummings. Peanut butter. Making snarky comments. Massages. Quotations. Being in France, especially Paris. Being pretentious. Laughter. Fuji apples. Words (propinquity, colloquial, tomfoolery, mordant…)

I do not love:
Hot humid weather. People who walk/drive slowly, especially if they are oblivious. Bad comedy. Right wing agendas. Stupid people. Earnest Hemingway. Waiting. Airports. Meat. Anne Coulter. Math. 8 am classes (never again). Bigotry. Religious zealots. Fred Phelps (& Co.) Most seafood. Skinny couches. Sunburn. Job hunting. Computer viruses. Country music. Zucchini.

What I'm doing with my life

Currently? Writing this.

I'm really good at

Procrastinating (honestly, so you know how long it took to just put something on this profile?). Making music mixes (and alliteration, apparently). Finding humor in things. Giving massages. Swirling soft-serve ice cream (it's a completely useless talent). Making things aesthetically pleasing. Complaining. Making people feel awkward. Hanging wall art straight without measuring.

The first thing(s) people usually notice about me

I don't know. I typically don't ask people upon meeting them "Could you tell me what you notice about me? No, don't think about it, just say whatever comes to your mind."

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

Music: Everything. Except country. In particular: Something Corporate, Brand New, Incubus, Sufjan Stevens, Red Hot Chili Peppers, A Perfect Circle, Death Cab, The Expendables, The Postal Service, Placebo, Jack Johnson, The Rocket Summer, Nirvana, The Receiving End of Sirens, Her Space Holiday, Miles Davis, The Decemberists, The Cat Empire, Sublime, A Wilhelm Scream, Dispatch, State Radio, Aqualung, Damien Rice, Donovan, The Hush Sound, Jefferson Airplane, AFI, Coldplay, Greg Laswell, Iron and Wine, Matisyahu, Paramore, Yann Tiersen, Radiohead, Flyleaf, Pepper, Regina Spektor, show tunes…ad infinitum

Books: Anything by William Shakespeare, Tamora Pierce, Laurie Notaro, and Chuck Palahniuk. Poetry: ee cummings, Charles Bukowski, T.S. Eliot, Edgar Allen Poe The Catcher in the Rye, Slaughterhouse Five, 1984, The Perks of Being A Wallflower, Speak, White Oleander, Brave New World, Harry Potter, Bloomability, All My Friends Are Superheroes, Cat’s Cradle, Everything Is Illuminated, The English Patient, Lord of the Flies, The Bell Jar, The Virgin Suicides, The Giving Tree, Running With Scissors, Dry, Go Ask Alice

Movies: Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Garden State, Everything Is Illuminated, Amelie, Nightmare Before Christmas (and anything else involving Tim Burton), 21 Grams, Closer, Crash, RENT, Dead Poets' Society, The Virgin Suicides, Fight Club, What Dreams May Come, Thirteen, White Oleander, Hedwig and the Angry Inch, Interview With The Vampire, Cruel Intentions, The Wind That Shakes The Barley, Across the Universe, Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, Donnie Darko

Food: Hot caffeinated beverages. Italian food. Potatoes in any form (it’s the Irish in me.) Anything at the Saturn Café. (Oh, Saturn. How do I miss thee.)

The six things I could never do without

Music. Books. Chapstick. Coffee. Friends. The ocean.
Not necessarily in that order.

I spend a lot of time thinking about

You know how people at holiday parties always ask the same things? "Oh hi! How are you? How is work/school?" What would people do if you said "Hello. How many clocks do you own?" or "If you could pick your birthday, what would it be?" or "What is your favorite internal organ?"

Why do businesses misspell the name of their company/product? Are people really more interested in buying something if it ends with a "z" instead of an "s"? Is it cute to spell the name of some antique store "Ye Olde Shoppe"? Do they think "Oh, wow, hey look at that! How original!" Or maybe they count on people actually knowing how to spell properly and therefore noticing specifically a sign with a misspelled word on it (They'd be wrong, of course, as modern Americans seem to have forgotten that "you" and "are" are not just letters of the alphabet.)

On a typical Friday night I am

I'd tell you, but then I'd have to kill you, which I hear can be rather difficult via computer.

The most private thing I'm willing to admit here

Well, you'll just have to wait to find out, now won't you?

You should message me if

You are awesome and wish to share your awesomeness with me!
