I am friendly, honest, and shy.

My Self-Summary

I'm a busy single (divorced) dad, who never seems to have enough time in the day. :) But, I'm trying to get myself out there to meet new people. I'm usually shy, until I get to know someone a bit, unless I'm in my element. Sometimes I'm serious, but I love to make people laugh and feel good. My sense of humor can be sarcastic, which some may not like, but I can also just be goofy.

I work in Information Technology, and spend my day around computers and software developers. I wear many hats at work, so describing my actual job is not easy. Sometimes I love my work, sometimes I hate it, depending on the hat I'm wearing at the time. :) I like problem solving, and helping others solve their problems, so my job fits my personality well.

My friends consider me to be nice, kind, helpful, logical, and extremely patient. I care about my friends and am willing to lend a sympathetic ear, or shoulder when needed. I'm a bit of a pack rat, and though I used to be a neat freak, my kids have cured me of that affliction. ;)

Physically, I'm an athletic guy, and I've been told I'm good looking. I work out regularly at home, and am toned, but I'm not a body builder. I'm not a big fan of aerobic workouts, and I tend to avoid them whenever possible. :) In my distant past, I played soccer for many years, ran track, rode horses, rode off-road motorcycles, skate boarded, roller skated/bladed, ice skated, water skied, and snow skied. These days, I don't have much time to do those things. I need to get out more. :)

Oddly, though I enjoy playing sports, I have little interest in watching them.

In my sparse free time, I usually try to catch up on some of my favorite TV shows, watch a DVD movie, or waste time on the Internet. I do like to read, though rather than novels it is usually reading to my children at night before bed. :)

My musical tastes are eclectic, and I listen to most music types, though I'm not a big fan of rap, or country (there are a few exceptions). I generally like 80s, 90s, classic rock, hard rock, modern rock, some heavy metal, techno, trance, and some pop. I also like some big band and swing. Occasionally, I also listen to classical, but not often. See below for more specifics...

If you have read this far, thank you for your time and patience. :) Take care. :) If you would like to know more, just ask, and I might tell you. :)

What I’m doing with my life

I spend most of my time working and taking care of my two kids (10yr old girl, 7 yr old boy). I wish I could tell you something exciting, but I don't have the time or guts to try things like bungie jumping or sky diving. :)

I’m really good at

Listening and empathizing, working with my hands, fixing things, assembling things, and solving technical problems. Sometimes I'm a fountain of useless knowledge. :)

The first things people usually notice about me

I hope the first thing people notice about me is my smile. :) Beyond that, I have no idea. :)

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

Favorite books: 1984, Farenheit 451, Victim Prime, various Kurt Vonnegut novels such as Cat's Cradle, and sci-fi such as the BattleTech series. I haven't read a novel in a while. :)

Favorite Movies: 5th Element, Jurassic Park, Appleseed, Underworld, Van Wilder, Ferris Bueller's Day Off, Office Space, Indiana Jones movies, 40 Year Old Virgin, the James Bond movies, the Bourne movies, the Pirates of the Caribbean movies, Matrix series, Cars, Wall-E, X-Men series, Monty Python's Holy Grail, Princess Bride, Ninja Scroll, and a few dozen others. I like to watch movies, and have a large number of them. :) Believe it or not, I even enjoy watching many of the "chick flicks". :) I usually watch action and comedies (whether they be animated or not).

Favorite TV: The Big Bang Theory, Chuck, Grey's Anatomy, Bones, House, Stargate Atlantis, BSG (though I only watch the seasons once on DVD), Farscape (DVD seasons).

Favorite music: I'm all over the map here. Depending on my mood, various techno/trance tunes, 80s, 90s, and rock in general. More specifically: Evanescence, Nickelback, Dido, Christina Aguilera, Last of the Mohicans soundtrack, Blue Man Group, Daughtry, Linkin Park, AC/DC, Nine Inch Nails (older stuff), Concrete Blonde, Crystal Method, Duran Duran, Garbage, Limp Bizkit (the censored Walmart versions), Van Halen (both Roth and Hagar), Cherry Poppin Daddies, and others.

Favorite foods: Japanese, Chinese, Vietnamese, various American cuisine. I'm more of a chicken person than beef person. For dessert, I like key-lime pie, cheese cakes of various flavors, carrot cake with cream cheese icing; pumpkin pie, and various fruit pies/cobblers.

The six things I could never do without

My kids, a roof over our heads, a job, food, air, and water. :) The rest is just stuff I can replace.

I spend a lot of time thinking about

Technology. It's my job, but also my interest. I also spend time thinking about the economy, and the mess we are currently in. I also think about politics, even though I'm not a huge fan of it.

On a typical Friday night I am

Watching recorded TV, listening to music while surfing the Internet, or watching movies at home. All of that is after my kids are in bed. :)

The most private thing I’m willing to admit here

I'm not a morning person, so I have two alarm clocks. :) I don't like heights. I have thought about learning to dance salsa, waltz, or something similar but never have. I'm a bit dancing-challenged, and in serious need of lessons. :)

You should message me if

In no particular order...
1. You love kids - whether you have your own or not.
2. You want to start out as friends, with potential to be best friends, and more.
3. You are a single mom who is looking for someone to spend time or talk with, who understands single parenthood.
4. You would rather go home with the designated driver, rather than the "life of the party".
5. You are just looking for a friend. I'm always open to making new friends. :)
6. You find me interesting. :)
