My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
I am a happy polyamorous eclectic Unitarian Universalist, nurse and licensed massage therapist. I am liberal, a feminist, and a lover of life.
I believe in a higher power, but not the Bible. I believe that if we are judged when we die, it will have much more to do with how we treated each other and the planet than who we slept with or what we ate on Friday. I honestly don't care what you believe (I mean that in the nice way, not the snarky one) as long as you don't try to change me...and I won't try to change you

I think that as long as you effectively communicate your relationship needs and personal boundaries, you should be able to trust your partner(s) to treat you right without making a lot of rules and restrictions...and if you can't trust them to treat you right, perhaps you're with the wrong partner. I have no interest in controlling anyone (unless we're talking about the fun and consensual kind) or being controlled. I don't believe in double standards - ganders and geese have total equality in my universe.

I really belong on the West coast, but won't make it there for at least a few more years, probably to the Bellingham, WA area. I would love to live in an intentional community or household of several adults (and their kids if any) helping each other through life, working together to make life better instead of in competition with each other.

I love the outdoors and adventure, having raised 3 children alone for 20 year's. With the exception of the youngest whom I lost 3 years ago, they are now very open minded and responsible young men, good citizens, and I'm very proud of them. While I am OK being alone, it is often more fun to have a partner in crime and I think we all dream of growing old with somebody. Now that my children are gone, and nursing school is finished, I often find myself with more free time than I know what to do with

If you see me repeatedly stalking your page, I'm probably looking you up on my phone and plan to say something eventually when i'm on a computer....or I didn't recognize the thumbnail on my phone until I clicked it.

I love new experiences, whether we are talking traveling or other and I am thoroughly enjoying my 2nd childhood as I embark on my 2nd career. I am very versatile and enjoy Free Hugs (look it up on Youtube) as much as welding.

We're all a little weird. And life is a little weird. And when we find someone whose weirdness is compatible with ours, we join up with them and fall into mutually satisfying weirdness — and call it love — true love.

What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
I have been very active in disaster relief as a volunteer communicator (ham radio operator) and have worked every major storm to hit FL since the 2004 hurricane season. In addition, I spent two days on a rooftop in New Orleans helping evacuate a hospital followed by another week in coastal Mississippi. I am currently a member of a federal medical disaster response team, all of these things leading directly to me returning to school and becoming a nurse. Losing my youngest halfway through didn't stop me; I decided that finishing school and living life well was the best way to honor him. I won't lie, I still have my moments of grief, but they are relatively few and far between and I accept, experience, and process them as gracefully and fully as possible before moving on. I don't see myself as a bereaved parent.

A few years ago, the kids and I did a 3-month bicycle ride from Queens, NY to Rapid City, SD and I'm working on planning a 3-month Australian walkabout in another year or so. In the meantime, I'm pretty heavily involved in hosting couchsurfers and traveling more locally; has 100+ personal references from people that I've hosted or been hosted by.

I love contra dancing and can't wait to get back to taking Yoga now that school is over. While I will probably not go "off the grid", I think that the more food we produce ourselves, the greener and healthier we can live....and more cheaply to boot. is my friend.

Here's a list of my interests as keywords for anyone searching for them : amateur radio, archery, banjo, bicycle touring, bicycling, aviation, biofuels, camping, canoeing, contra dancing, disaster relief, geocaching, ham radio, falconry, hiking, kayaking, motorcycles, Society for Creative Anachronism, open relationship, organic gardening, paganism, permaculture, polyamory, recycling, Ren Faires, sailing, SCA, wicca. This is by no means an inclusive list as i am always open to learning about new things. I don't try to do them all at once, I may learn about something then put it on a shelf while i pursue something else. So many experiences, so little time LOL

We used to have something on here called know, back in the day. I saved mine because...well, people actually said these things about me. Some are former lovers, many are still my friends in real life.

“Hi Ladies. This is a good man. Fun, smart, polite, interesting and guaranteed to make you laugh. I was passing through his town and he was sweet enough to show me the lovely architecture of Tallahassee, State Capital, a gorgeous State Park and even humored me with my request of checking out the thrift stores for a hunt to find the perfect purse! Really nice gentleman. I would have loved to spend more time with him and meet his son had I been in town longer. I sure hope Gene and I keep in touch and meet again someday.”

“I really enjoyed visiting with Gene and Yvonne. They are great people :) Had a really good time. More visits to come :)”
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
Helping others and making folks smile. Accepting others as they are without wanting to change them.

Also good at giving repressed and closed-minded people mild coronaries when they read my profile :)
The first things people usually notice about me
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
I shaved my head. I figured I'd rather look like a guy who shaved his head than a guy who was going bald. As it turns out, most of my friends say it looks better and I happen to agree.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food

Mostly military thrillers (Tom Clancy) or non-fiction, currently reading "The Ethical Slut", "Sex At Dawn" and "Urban Tantra". Until recently, I worked 14-16hrs/day and rarely had time to do anything, Now that I'm on my own, all my time is tied up working, studying and enjoying life, so I'm still not reading for fun.

I don't really watch much TV and that includes movies but I do like anything by Mel Brooks, or old John Wayne movies; I'd really rather be doing something outside, but we will download a movie from time to time...anything from a war movie to a girlie flick. I also like downloading videos from and learning new tricks to keep things interesting.

If I do see or hear of a TV show I like (Firefly and Dexter are my favorites), I just download the whole series and make a party out of it.

I like all music but I've developed a liking for Australian country. Check out Lee Kernaghan, The Sunny Cowgirls, Emma Kelly, Slim Dusty and a few others or check out for my Youtube playlist. It sounds a lot like our country music from 15 years ago...or like one of my friends remarked, it sounds more country than country. Half the fun is picking out the cultural differences in the music and videos...words, idioms, vehicles used etc

I'm pretty omnivorous. I look for foods that I haven't tried yet in restaurants and have been known to tell the waiter in a Vietnamese restaurant to surprise me. I like to make my own sushi or invent other new dishes but can in no way be called "a chef". I keep a vegetarian kitchen by voluntary agreement with my Hare Krishnan roommate, but have never let that stand between me and a good steak, some fried chicken, or seafood.
The six things I could never do without
Think outside the box. Sometimes the little things can say a lot.
A loaded we need to start at the bottom of Maszlow's pyramid and work up? Perhaps they are really asking what I find important in my life? I'll get back to you on that.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
I've noticed that most of my matches are younger than me. Not sure what to say to that....After raising 3 kids alone for most of their lives and escaping from Fundamentalist Christianity, I guess I am a bit more open to new ideas than most and maybe that shows up in my attitudes and beliefs. Either way, I'm not opposed to age long as we're not getting married, it's not like one of us will be drawing social security as the other is still looking for themselves; it's friendship, dating and having a good time, not a lifetime commitment. I'm still not particularly drawn to one age range over another and refuse to predefine what/who I'm looking for so don't let mere numbers stand in the way of what might be a fun and educational friendship or relationship for us both. This holds true for older as well as younger. I'm not a cougar hunter, but have never ran from a potential friendship or relationship because of their age or ethnicity.

Several religion tests said I was Wiccan, and I am interested in learning more or meeting others who practice it, but I am not Wiccan myself. My background is Native American and my beliefs (not religion) have always leaned that way pretty strongly; I consider myself an eclectic pagan following a primarily Native path. I really enjoy the Unitarian church that I attend as they are supportive of my quest as I seek my own path. I spend a lot of time thinking about how to make the world a better place....or at least my little corner of it....and actually succeeding at it much of the time. I've been spending a lot of time lately trying to figure out my version of the truth and regardless of where I find it, am positively eternally grateful for such a beautiful world to live in; I just hope to learn as much as possible about it in the time I have allotted.

I have no problem with any belief system; I think that whatever anyone believes is the truth for them and will support and celebrate their right to worship Jesus Christ, a Flying Blueberry Twinkie or nothing at all if they so choose. As a veteran, I was willing to fight to defend the right to both freedom of and freedom from religion and still feel very strongly about this. All I ask in return is that you afford me the same respect.
On a typical Friday night I am
Netflix and takeout, or getting your party on — how do you let loose?
The same thing we do every night Pinky....TRY TO TAKE OVER THE WORLD!!!!!
The most private thing I’m willing to admit

I do not predefine a lot about who I am looking for. You know who you are; this is about who I am. If you think we might enjoy learning more about each other as friends, give me a yell and we can talk; whatever happens happens and it really is all good as long as we're totally honest and open with each other.
