My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
I'm the type of person that is driven to explore and to understand everything around me. I am fascinated by new places and experiences, and also by the people I meet along the way. I am attracted to people who are just as curious and eager to explore the world as I am. I also enjoy good conversations more than almost anything else, and I will talk about anything and everything. Culture, Science, and all things dealing with people and our collective problems are some of my favorite topics, but I also am fascinated by film and music.

Backpacking and hiking are two of my favorite things, as well as nearly everything having to do with water as I have lived by or near rivers and the Chesapeake Bay my whole life. I have also grown to love cities and I love to walk through them and wander into alleys and old buildings looking for odd stores and restaurants.

I'm a pretty shy guy, but I thrive on new experiences and I am open to pretty much anything. I don't talk too much but I try to make it count when I do, and once I get going it can be hard to get me to stop. I live to argue, and I prefer some stiff opposition. I enjoy cooking and I'm just as adventurous there too. I picked up a taste for Asian cuisine and I can make a mean casserole as well.

I spent 5 years killing time in the US Navy, and while in the service I was lucky enough to spend three years living in Japan. During this period I was able to visit the majority of the countries that fill the Indian and Pacific oceans. I spent a bit of time in the Middle East as well although I managed to avoid getting shot at while I was there so I have a better opinion of the region than most. I was particularly struck by Singapore and Thailand, and I hope to get back there some day.

I have kept the great American past time of Sunday driving alive and spend a great deal of time terrorizing the countryside in my car or on my bike. I recently completed a run up and down the entire west coast and across the southern side of the country, and I hope to make one up the East Coast on an old British motorcycle come summer.

I am curious, adventurous, and a conversationalist
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
I 've finished off my degree in Sociology and loved every moment of it. I am currently getting by as a Fiscal Technician with the Department of Corrections, but looking forward towards finishing off my Masters. I aim to spend at least one year working in Antarctica for the experience and the strangeness of it all. A dream of mine is to spend a year living in the wilderness, preferable somewhere in western Canada. Not really right in the head obviously.
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
Fixing problems with whatever my be laying about, just like my man, MacGyver. No really. It's fun and you should try it. When I'm not busy making problems worse I try to be as useful as I can, in whatever way I can. I can't always promise results, but I'm always eager to help.
The first things people usually notice about me
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
Like everyone else, I'm a little shy and take a moment to meet and greet, but I'm good to go after that.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food

Books: Anything that's put down in front of me including the occasional comic. I prefer more involved fiction and political analysis, but I love the Discworld series and the occasional bit of relaxed fiction is always welcome.

For my current favorites:Grendel (A fantastic book), Big Dead Place (This one as well), Cry of the Kalihari, A Brief History of Nearly Everything, Bathroom reader series, On Killing, and anything by Terry Pratchett.

I enjoy schlock films far more than I am willing to admit in public and I have to admit that crappy horror films are a ton of fun because you can tear them to pieces and still enjoy them. That said, I have a soft spot for terrible films, and I love making snide comments at whatever god awful waste of film I can get my hands on. I am aware that not everyone enjoys that and can shut up when necessary.

Some specific flicks I have enjoyed are Never Cry Wolf, Twilight of the Cockroaches, Once Upon a Time in the West, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Across the Universe, and Run Lola, Run.

If reading and exploring are the bricks in my daily routine then music is the mortar. I collect it endlessly and you won't find me without my headphones. I prefer punk and rockabilly, but recently I have gotten pretty deep into outcast hip-hop/rap and Doomtree has quickly become my favorite group.

As for food, if you can eat it, I'll try it. I reserve a special place for noodles though. And Pul-Kogi. Korean food is the shit.
The six things I could never do without
Think outside the box. Sometimes the little things can say a lot.
Comfortable shoes, Foreign lands, New stuff, Places I haven't been yet, Cities, People who disagree with me.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
I've been unfortunately, fairly involved with current US politics. While I have been able to keep my interest outside of my daily routine, I still leave a dangerous amount of a time free for catching up with the current clusterfuck. I actually spend most of my time thinking about how I can afford to visit South-East Asia again because it was like visiting the Moon last time I was there.
On a typical Friday night I am
Netflix and takeout, or getting your party on — how do you let loose?
Hiking, Relaxing with a book, climbing into a tent, or exploring abandoned buildings downtown.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
I listen to old radio plays on NPR on Sundays. I am also a hasher. You know...the drinking club with a running problem?
