I am of unusual mettle, nostalgic, and a drinker.

My Self-Summary

-I believe firmly in the power of eye contact, withheld or utilized.
-I need some alone time every single day.
-I find few things as simple and pleasant as having a cigarette while driving.
-Since becoming Gainfully Employed and getting a car a few months later, I have turned into a little old lady who goes to bed really early and gets up really early. I don't even spend all day drunk anymore! (WHUT?!)
-I want to go back to school and maybe stay there forever and ever.
-I recently re-discovered that I don't like soda pop.
-I am fiercely loyal to serial commas (and I love that they are also called "Oxford commas").

What I’m doing with my life

I spend most of my time split between work (where I'm a copywriter) and applying to graduate schools (for an M.Phil in history).

Spare time involves reading, watching television, and list-making. To-do lists are great because I get to cross things off them all the time. I started making a bucket list recently but I found that a really unappealing activity.

I’m really good at

Writing -- it's how I'm employed, anyway.
I am pretty good at not seeming drunk even when I am.
I can view and dissect any situation logically, even if I don't act on those rational explications.
Grammar and spelling, I got yo' ass.

The first things people usually notice about me

My laugh, because it can be big and deep and often inappropriately placed. Also, I almost always have something in my hand, and I like it that way -- a pen, a cigarette, a drink, a ribbon on a pillow ... now that I think about it, I don't think I could have a conversation without something in my hands or in easy reach. That is so weird.

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

Books (authors, really): William Styron, Pat Conroy, Margaret Mitchell. I find myself drawn to Southern writers, somehow. Also, Cormac McCarthy, Michael Chabon, Kurt Vonnegut, Jr.
Movies: Horror films; the occasional indie film; I love exploring what they play at the New Beverly Cinema. I have watched The Big Lebowski, The Usual Suspects, and Empire Records many, many times.
Music: I find few bands have remained among my favorites over the years, but Weezer is one of them. Lately I've really enjoyed Florence + the Machines and Ida Maria.
Food: Cheese, especially feta; Indian; Mexican; I like my fruits and vegetables raw rather than cooked; red wine, especially Cabernets.

The six things I could never do without

1. Something to keep me busy, like my job or my applications
2. Pandora internet radio
3. Water (I say this outside of the necessary drinking, bathing, etc. Outside of those, I need still water. Because I love drinking it. Water. Yum.)
4. Lucky Strikes
5. My passport
6. orange juice (preferably with pulp)

I spend a lot of time thinking about

My graduate school applications; the last words of death row inmates (for a writing series I'm sort of playing with); Oxford, where I spent a year as an undergraduate, where my close friends and best memories are, and where I'm applying to graduate school.

On a typical Friday night I am

Having dinner with my parents, catching up on a week's worth of sleep, or looking forward to going out. (NB: my "going out" is more of the pub scene than the club scene. That is, not the club scene AT ALL.)

My Friday nights are mostly mellow; Saturday is a better bet for me to be doing something interesting.

The most private thing I’m willing to admit here

I watch way too much TV online in my free time. I used to read a lot, you know, back before I had a job. I still tell myself that I do, but really ... not so much. I find this embarrassing and I would have a difficult time admitting it aloud, so I think it's appropriate to put here.

Also, I just had to fight some pretty strong instincts to fill this profile with Charlie's Match.com info (see: "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia," season 5, episode 5).

You should message me if

I will fall for anyone who's really witty, especially good with word play or puns, or loves Green Wing.

You can win me over with your wit, you can really make me laugh, and you understand that there's not much you can give me that I don't already have.

You appreciate proper grammar and spelling; you don't mind (too much) my habits for getting really frustrated with things like billboards or movie posters who get these things wrong; you, too, use serial commas.
