I am vivacious, ambitious, and curious.

My Self-Summary

(Time for updates! Oh, and I know, I know, tl;dr. I'm thorough, so sue me.)

In addition to my three descriptors above (vivacious, ambitious, and curious), I would also describe myself—or have been described—as: inquisitive, pensive, hesitant, nerdy, passionate, gentle, playful, resilient, intelligent, spunky, a survivalist, tenacious, logical, dynamic, collected, fickle, calm, snarky, devious, adventurous, independent, self-possessed, a pervert, thoughtful, geeky, obsessive, anachronistic, open, mischievous, very sexual, intense, analytical, objective, free, spontaneous, private, careful, bold.

I often come off as quiet, reserved, sometimes aloof. I tend to watch first, carefully observe everything and take note, then act (unless you catch me in the rare aggressive extroverted mood: then, watch out!). Beyond that first introverted inclination, I’m a bit of a wild card.

I am polyamorous. I may have more than one relationship at a time and believe in loving more than one person at a time. I'm definitely not monogamous. And speaking of identification (and I’m someone who finds labels confining, but useful), I am fairly accurately an INTJ, happily queer (okc says I'm bi, but gender is a spectrum and I paint with the whole palette), super sex-positive, and quite kinky, as well as many other things. I am large and contain multitudes.

What I’m doing with my life

Diving into an intense 4 years of research and study at the University of Chicago. I'm currently slinking through my first year. My major? *Must* I choose a science? I love them all. With experience, I trust that I'll find my niche (and keep my wonder and respect for the rest) and indulge my passion for research.

Reading "new" books. I love discovering literature! I also love holing up under the covers for undisclosed amounts of time absorbing ink from oft-turned pages...

Watching movies! Netflix, what did I do before you? (Oh yes, that's right, rewatch The Lord of the Rings...) I am a filmaholic. I have several HUNDRED must-sees and am loving every celluloid second.

Exploring WoW as an extension of my already overflowing love of fantasy, adventure, escapism, and quests. Also very curious about RPing. And speaking of gaming: I love board games! Especially chess and Scrabble (wanna play?).

Loving my feathery cockatiel companion of over 7 years (those of you also owned by a parrot, you can relate!).

Writing/art. Much of my time and energy is being poured into academia these days, but I do my best to create when the compulsion strikes.

Dreaming up camping trips and road trips and urban exploration trips.

Looking for outdoor adventuring opportunities! I love hiking, caving, biking, and almost anything involving a boat and lots of water. As a recent transplant from the West, I miss the wilderness.

Nurturing a budding love of things that grow (esp. things that can take the neglect I dole out, such as cacti).

Exploring the wide wonderful world of BDSM.

Enjoying my sexual freedom.

Honestly? Surfing the internet. There is much to read! I learn new things every day (and research them thoroughly).

Spending as much time as possible with my partners. I have two serious relationships that I hold dear and try to balance with the rest of my life (UofC has a way of eating your soul) with the utmost of care. I'm a pretty busy person. That being said, my relationships are non-exclusive and I'm always on the lookout for new people to connect with, whatever the capacity may be.

I’m really good at

Analyzing everything
Indulging and discovering obsessions
Winning science competitions (ah, the glory days)
Having what I want
Wanting what I've got
Writing essays
Wordplay! I make my own lingo half the time, which my dear contemporaries speak fluently, much to my amusement/delight.
Being an anachronism
(Attempting to) avoid drama. Live simply!
Delightedly over-using and abusing parenthesis (case in point)
Navigating and map reading
Being unbounded
Staying up too late
Naming inanimate objects (my bike, my computer, my calculator...)
Seeking and giving affection
Finding and trying new things
Reading between the lines
Being a preliminary crazy old (cat) lady. Get off my lawn!
Learning languages (French, primarily)
Procrastinating (the first step is admitting, right?)
Disappearing (the number of times I've stood next to someone and had them ask where I'd gone... *sigh* It's the petiteness, I think)
Being a perfectionist (with myself, not others)
Tetris; this goes with the above, methinks
Observing my surroundings
Getting myself into bizarre situations
Making lists, apparently ;)

The first things people usually notice about me

The smile. The radiant, slightly goofy, infectious smile.

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

Books and authors:
Just a few favorites... Kushiel's Legacy series, Lolita, The Little Prince, Love in the Time of Cholera, Equus, Replay, The Fountainhead, The Owl and the Pussycat, White Oleander, 1984, Walt Whitman, Fahrenheit 451, A Wrinkle in Time, Shel Silverstein, Things My Girlfriend and I Have Argued About, Contact, and pretty much everything else by Sagan, Flowers for Algernon, Oscar Wilde, The Time Traveler's Wife, His Dark Materials, A Clockwork Orange. The "to-read" list is even longer. Any recommendations?

Movies:
The Flight of Dragons, Wall-E, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Brick, Harold and Maude, Silence of the Lambs, Cyrano de Bergerac (1990), Secretary, Contact, Shortbus, Moulin Rouge, Amelie, Beauty and the Beast, The Royal Tenenbaums, The Boondock Saints, Mindwalk, Nell, Lolita (both versions), Star Wars (the original three, please), The Lord of the Rings, A Clockwork Orange, Fight Club, Pretty in Pink, Ghost World, Edward Scissorhands, Interview with a Vampire, Serenity, The Princess Bride, Fur, Brokeback Mountain, Into the Wild, American Beauty, The Big Lebowski, O Brother, Where Art Thou? (I love the Coen bros), Pan's Labyrinth, Young Frankenstein, Romy and Michelle's High School Reunion (my guilty pleasure), The Truman Show, Chasing Amy (I love Kevin Smith), The Rocky Horror Picture Show, many many others.

Television:
The only way to watch this stuff is on DvD, marathoning with delicious lovers and delicious snack food. Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Firefly, Battlestar Galactica (the new one), Dexter, Californication, Alias, Burn Notice, Six Feet Under, Monty Python's Flying Circus, House, MD., Flight of the Conchords. Also, just getting into Star Trek: The Next Generation and love it (*cough*Data*cough*) thus far.

Music:
I listen to a lot of "older" music. The 60's, 70's, and into the 80's (I've been in a HUGE 80's kick recently; Depeche Mode and Erasure are nigh-constant earworms) are really my thing. Among my favorites are Simon and Garfunkel, The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Queen, CCR, the Violent Femmes, David Bowie, Cat Stevens, Meatloaf. As far as new music goes, I like Modest Mouse, Cat Power, Pink Martini, the Dresden Dolls, She Wants Revenge, Alanis Morissette, Interpol, Nine Inch Nails, and occasionally really hard scary heavy metal. And then there's old stuff, like Edith Piaf, the Boswell Sisters, Miles Davis, Billie Holiday. I like jazz, big band brassy tunes, and swing, and I'd like to get into blues.

Food:
Mexican (and other Latin American cuisines), barbeque, French, occasionally East Asian cuisine, and I am just discovering Indian (and LOVING it!). Oh, and seafood! Crab, shrimp, calamari, (most) fish, the whole works. Also, I tend to love intensely/distinctly tasting things and eat them by themselves, examples being pesto, Nutella, peanut butter, lemon curd, marzipan, cheese. And, um, chocolate. Lots and lots and lots of chocolate.

The six things I could never do without

Corrective lenses
A good book
Freedom
A constant supply of new information to research and compute
Love
Paper and writing instruments on hand

I spend a lot of time thinking about

All the things I used to want to be when I "grew up": a spy, a novelist, a treetop rainforest field biologist, an archeologist, a sailor, an astronomer, a vagabond, a theatre/theater tech, a virtuoso violinist, a private investigator, a starving artist, a paleontologist, a gypsy with (a gold tattoo, and) a tight-knit tribe of ruffians and river rats, a librarian, a hermit in the wilderness, a photographer for National Geographic, a chocolatier...

The most private thing I’m willing to admit here

I find noses to be ridiculously attractive. Not every nose, and not all the time, and it's not a fetish--I just find a distinctive, interesting nez to be quite comely.

You should message me if

-Any (or rather, many) of the above made you tingle.

-The cure for that tingle is free-association/intellectual conversation, the kind where time stops and you can feel an almost chemical reaction occurring, bonds forming and transforming, a crackling electric frisson... Yes?

-You can cook! I can't, but if you can teach me to make/just make me something delicious, we'll get along great.

-You think we could have an awesome time geeking/kinking out over something geeky/kinky, potentially with chocolate involved.

-You have a huge moldy book collection I may peruse.

-You're chill with/accept/have open relationships.
