Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
I'm basically a lefty and also a an open minded civil libertarian
essentially against the concept of "victimless crime" among
I judge people by their behavior, not their conformity. Diversity
of individual tastes, perspectives and motivations is natural for
the intelligent and beautiful but dangerous monkeys that we are.
"Norms" should demand civil behavior only, as far as they are
legally binding. I'm straight. So gay marriage is not my concern or
I'm a lifelong natural history nerd and animal lover, with a deep
aesthetic appreciation for the elegant beauty and design of living
things in their sadly decreasingly finite diversity. And since the
Cambrian period, 540 million years ago. Female Homo sapiens is the
most elegant and beautiful creature nature (God) has yet come up
Evolution is not rationally controversial.
I prefer moral philosophy over religion. I call myself an agnostic.
I'm okay with "God" until it is given a definition. I like to think
of it as "the mystery of existence". Or whatever.
I enjoy reading and writing. Mostly nonfiction. Essays, debates, or
a little humor. I don't know how to write fiction.
I draw. Pencil, pen and ink. Definitely not world class but not
bad. I've done scientific illustration, ink line and stipple. And
"underground" cartoon style drawing. I like mostly pre abstract
fine art. And decadent art and lowbrow surrealism, etc.
Life is tragic, hilarious and beautiful. Fascinating and boring.
Fulfilling and frustrating. Agony and ecstasy. All temporary.
Enjoy the ride as best you can.
Is this kind of a self summary? Part of one I guess. Or too much
too soon? Let me know. I'm open to criticism and extortion.
Maybe I'll write more later. Or erase this. :-)
It's late. I'm tired. See you in my dreams.
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
I rent a 2 story cabin on the Russian river. Live upstairs, work
downstairs. I prepare fossils commercially, and sell fossils and
gems. Since 95. I'm suffering burnout right now. I like the results
of my work but the process is meticulous and tedious. And it's like
working in the Oklahoma dust bowl. I'm spending more time writing
and drawing. For free. I need to decide what I want to be when I
grow up. Again. I'd like to spend my remaining time here doing
creative work. Preferably writing. Wm. Burroughs said "write about
what you know". This is what I do. I need to make more $$. So I
hope to transition to a creative career. Not easy with writing/art.
But possible. Let's get married. You can support me.
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
Writing, drawing, finding and preparing rare and beautiful fossils.
Humor, dressing myself and tying my own shoes.
The first things people usually notice about me
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
I look like I'm from the moon. I can fly.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Help your potential matches find common interests.
I listen to rock music mostly. NO metal. 50s-60s-70s (art, glam,
punk). 80s and later post punk, grunge, "alternative". I enjoy some
of most varieties of music from everywhere across time, especially
performed live, except heavy metal rock. I enjoy dancing if I can
I left Hollywood in 95. I'm a country boy now. Haven't listened to
much new music. But I like Gaga more than Ke$ha and Bieber. RIP Amy
Winehouse. She was great. Beethoven is my favorite old composer. No
matter. Music is just personal taste.
My favorite fiction is 'Thus Spoke Zarathustra'. My favorite
nonfiction is 'Darwin's Dangerous Idea'. Hard to pick a favorite
movie(s). Lord Jim, McCabe and Mrs. Miller, Casablanca, Trash, The
Big Lebowski, Pan's Labyrinth off the top of my head. Six Feet
Under was my favorite TV show. Old TV: Twilight Zone, Outer Limits,
Star Trek. I no longer watch TV but liked John Stewart and the
Colbert Report. Breaking Bad. Listening to early Cramps as I write.
Food: anything that moves. I like most food. Thai is a favorite. I
love Mexican. Fast food: In and Out Burger only. Favorite wild
meat: fox squirrel (as a child). Yum!
The six things I could never do without
Think outside the box. Sometimes the little things can say a lot.
Biological necessities: air, water, food, shelter, and a
terrestrial planet with a habitable biosphere. Love. Sex.
Trilobites. Books. Bathtubs (water is included under biological
necessities) with soap, shampoo and a razor. Freedom. That's seven.
Sorry. Coffee. Eight. Sorry again.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
My future endeavors. The state of the world. Undermining the status
quo through writing, debating and introducing new and deviant
perspectives. Coffee. Yen gau. Evolution. History. Glamour girls
with shaved armpits and red toenails wearing opera length gloves
and strapless cocktail dresses. Violent amazons. Trilobites.
Cambrian paleontology, Mountain Kingsnakes. Cats. Protecting
indigenous peoples and their cultures against boring Western
Imperial conformist consumer monoculture. Ripe and juicy peaches.
On a typical Friday night I am
Netflix and takeout, or getting your party on — how do you let loose?
Working, writing, drawing or hanging out with friends. Unless there
is some special event I want to be at.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
I sometimes jaywalk if it is safe to do so. And also, that I am a
saner guy than my writing might suggest. I know my writing is good
because every letter or essay submitted to a newspaper or website
has been published. I am given to blatant honesty and sometimes
overstatement in my writing. As well as dispensing with the social
filters that most people observe. I am hoping that my writing on
here makes you laugh. I enjoy life's simple pleasures. Good coffee,
company, and conversation. I love nature, art, and much else.
