soft, hairy, and jovial
My self-summary Propose an edit
I'm pretty much recovered from a recent bout of chronic fatigue and
am hoping to get back to the business of saving the minds of the
world from the scourge that is schizophrenia. If I've got the
time I'd also like to further liberalise society in such a way that
anyone can do whatever they like if no harm comes to others because
of that action. Regulated drug supply and prostitution would make
the world a safer, happier place.
Personality-wise, I'm a laid-back, jovial type who can be very
serious when discussing (not arguing) important issues, but can be
very silly (funny voices and faces) when the conversation takes a
turn for the surreal. I guess I'm also one of those people who
baulks at the sight of abbreviations and won't use a short word if
a long one sounds better. I'm no square though. I have recently got
back to dancing myself into a sweaty mess with my great natural
rhythm and originality (the word originality has been used by
others and I concede that may be their way of telling me I look
like an idiot) to whatever catchy tune is playing at the local
nightspot. Must.. dance.. more.
What I'm doing with my life Propose an edit
Temping and volunteering at the moment trying to build up my
confidence in full-time hours before I throw off my incapacity
benefit safety blanket and get a proper job. I'm also really
enjoying the summer sunshine and taking my camera for long walks
and bike rides and have just started writing my book. "The Madness
of the Messiahs: Where did schizophrenia come from and where is it
going?". Okay, so I've only written the title, but I'm happy with
it and it has inspired me to crack on. :)
I'm really good at Propose an edit
Listening and being polite to strangers and treating people with
respect until they've established that they absolutely don't
deserve it.
The first thing(s) people usually notice about me Propose an edit
You would have to ask "people" but I am really rather tall and I
have a beard.
My favorite books, movies, music, and food Propose an edit
For somebody who's trying to write a book I'm not really that big a
reader, although I spent lots of time in the library in my MSc days
investigating my theories (and disregarding my coursework).
Fictionwise, I've only really got into Christopher Brookmyre
novels, perhaps because I know I'm going to be entertained and he
basically shares my worldview. I'm really a non-fiction man. George
Monbiot and Greg Palast respectively fill me with hope and
anger.
Dead Man's Shoes is an all time favourite. I tend to enjoy films
that get me emotional and are close to reality, although I just saw
the new Indy movie. I switched off my brain and grinned
throughout.
I'll dance to anything (including Justin Timberlake, alone on the
dancefloor at the end of a friends wedding. That sounds sad, but
was actually awesome. When I get in a groove...). At home it's
mostly low-fi, obscure stuff that I've borrowed from my pal Jon. He
uses my washing machine, I copy his cds and enjoy them lots.
I'm a great cook... probably. One of these days I'll actually do
some cooking. I love good food, I maybe just need somebody I care
about to inspire me to seize the utensils.
The six things I could never do without Propose an edit
I'm really not a materialist at all, but I have grown very attached
to my camera now that I'm a blipper (www.blipfoto.com) and I need
my internet connection. It's reassuring to have all that knowledge
right there for when you need it. Being a scientist, it's quite
hard not to take the question literally, put on my boring hat and
list oxygen, essential fatty acids, essential amino acids and
sleep. At least I'm a scientist who is aware he can be boring.
I spend a lot of time thinking about Propose an edit
What I'm going to put in my book about schizophrenia and humanity,
whether that political party will get back to me so that I can
start making the world better, what I want to do as a job now that
I'm feeling better... and what I want in a lady. :)
On a typical Friday night I am Propose an edit
Enjoying myself with friends, probably wanting to find somewhere to
dance.
The most private thing I'm willing to admit here Propose an edit
I think I covered that with the Timberlake incident.
You should message me if Propose an edit
You're even considering it. I'll be nice... probably.
