My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
Isn't it a marvelous world where we can spend the morning over creamy French toast and coffee discussing Chandler and Hammett, move on to stare in silent wonder at the flow of water under the redwood trees, sip Oolong tea and ponder the mathematics that connects those ripples with the play of stars in the night sky, finally ending the day curled up together on the couch sipping sherry and laughing as Woody Allen transposes Ingmar Bergman to New York? How lucky are we to live in such a wonderful world? Puppies, supernovas, Melville, octopi, Chopin, pomegranates & persimmons, Bugs Bunny - there's so much beauty in this world.

I'm pretty happy with my life at this point - I have a great job, my son is out of the house and things are going well. Life is good. I'd love to have someone to share the journey with.

Although my academic background is in mathematics and I write software for a living, I'm not really that into computers per se - my interests tend to lie more on the artistic/philosophical side. I love long wide-ranging conversations that touch on deep philosophical issues as well as trivialities, that wander from discussion of a book or movie to personal reminiscences to pondering the nature of life, drawing connections between disparate topics. A really good conversation should also include its share of belly laughs. My sense of humor is very important to me. I have a lot of very heavy intellectual interests that may make me sound awfully dour and serious, but I like to think that I approach most things with a sense of the absurdity of life and without taking myself (or others) too seriously. I love to laugh and I find much of the world wryly amusing.

I tend to be a fairly casual person and am most comfortable with others who are as well. I'm no fashion plate and wouldn't know how to handle one if I had one, but I also enjoy getting dressed up and going someplace fancy.

I have a deep and abiding love of language – e. g., obscure words, puns, word-roots, slang, etc. I love dictionaries.

I'm a voracious reader - everything from classic literature and philosophy to mysteries and sci-fi. I also read a lot of music history and criticism. My 'to-be-read' stack is always getting out of hand.

I love music deeply and passionately. My tastes are fairly eclectic - I've spent the last few years going deeper into classical music (getting to know Mozart and Brahms better), but now I'm drifting back to jazz, the Beatles, and old country-western among other things.

I'm looking for someone with a good head on her shoulders and a wide range of interests. I'm most at home with the perpetual-student type.

I am bright, funny, and casual
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
For fun:

I've been doing Improv Theater for awhile now and my troupe, Liquid Mind, has a regular performing spot on Fridays at Pan Theater in Oakland. It's fun and exciting.

I love live music (from Yoshi's to the symphony), art museums and the theater. When not out and about, I love to curl up with a good book or pop a classic film in the DVD player or zone out with something light and funny.

My job:

I write software for a living - it's a great job, both creative and analytical, usually challenging and often quite satisfying. I sometimes wish it were more collaborative, but one can't have everything.

As I spend all day in front of (and metaphorically inside) a computer, I try to mostly leave it alone in my off time, though some of my creative projects get put together digitally, too.

Too many to list, but...

I read classic lit, sci-fi, mysteries, non-fiction (usually either science or something to do with music)

I love old movies and new ones: The Saragossa Manuscript, Citizen Kane, Being John Malkovich, City Lights, Stand-Up Guys, etc.

Musically I'm mostly focused on jazz and classical, but I love all sorts of stuff - country, blues, reggae, oldies, "world music"... I don't really keep up with contemporary pop music at all.

I'm not too picky about food - love good high-end restaurants, but can make do with grilled cheese.
