My Self-Summary
There's a common thread in the summaries I've read here, and that
is how difficult it is put one's SELF into words. So true. How do
you tell people that you can groove with the best of them, yet
you're a klutz off the dance floor. You'd rather stand for hours in
stilletos than walk a mile in sneakers. You love to travel, but the
plane rides make you a nervous wreck. You've got major motion
sickness that a wobbly chair makes you want to upchuck. Oh, but the
exhilaration from a roller coaster ride you find intense. The last
time you cried during a movie was when you watched Bambi on your
7th birthday. OK, Gran Turino almost did it for you, but dammit,
Eastwood is not suppose to die in his movies! so, in a nutshell,
you would be just like me - a living, breathing, human
contradiction. Welcome to my world...
What I’m doing with my life
Work and Travel. Although I'm uneasy about planes, the hours spent
in a flying tin can is a small price to pay for the wonder of a new
city or country, people, culture and cuisine. I'm in a good place
in my career. I log 60 hours at work on a typical week. I work
hard. I play hard. OK, not quite. I work hard, then I'm sometimes
too tired to do anything but walk aimlessly inside my house.
DOWNTIME, is what I call it.
On a more serious note, this quote comes to mind when I think of
the life choices that has led me to this point in my life, "I may
not have gone where I intended to go, but I think I have ended up
where I needed to be." (D. Adams)
So, now I just wait for that next fork in the road and see where my
choice takes me. Until then, I work my crazy hours. I travel to my
dream destinations. I cherish my family and friends.
I’m really good at
I'm really good at not answering my phone. Friends and family can
attest to that. My cell's more of an accessory than necessity. I'm
more of a face-to-face kinda gal than ear-to-bluetooth: My last
stand for old- school values. OK, I guess I should put down being
contrary, too. It's fun to sometimes take a stand [that you don't
necessarily believe in] simply for it's debating value. I'm also
the coolest auntie ever! Sure the opinion was rendered when my
nephew was 4 and awesome meant making hot dogs explode in
microwaves and letting him eat ice cream for lunch. I'm good at
crossword puzzles, but I do it in pencil not ink because I am
fantabulous, not obnoxious.
The first things people usually notice about me
- I smile a lot. It helps when you see things through rose-colored
glasses. I'll take naivete over cynicism anytime - makes for
happier people.
- I'm funny. When you're surrounded by boys growing up, you really
survive through sheer wit to compensate for lack of brawn. Learned
those one-liners that stop them in their tracks, you know?
- My shoes. Not too funky, quite girly, with just a hint of sexy.
My favorite books, movies, music, and food
I am not a snob when it comes to books. I'll read any literary
genre: crime, mystery, sci-fi, action, adventure, etc. Ludlum,
Baldacci, Clancy, Jane Austen, Amy Tan, Doug Adams, O. Scott Card
just to name a few. Although some may strongly disagree, I like Dan
Brown pre-Da Vinci Code. I can't get over the fact that Nicholas
Sparks writes beautifully sappy novels-already reread most of them.
I don't usually go for non-fiction, but Kissinger, Nixon, Reagan
& Greenspan biographies were interesting. My X chromosomes
dictate that I like the occasional "Shopaholic..." series-type
books of broke-girl-meets-rich-gorgeous-broken-guy. However, I will
only admit to it under extreme duress. I like action, comedy and
adventure movies. Keep making sequels/prequels to Star Wars &
Indiana Jones-I'll watch 'em all! My absolute favorites are Charlie
Chaplin's, Magnificent 7, Glory, Princess Bride, Sting, and George
of the Jungle-eclectic is a nice way to label my taste in films. My
taste in music is more Alternative and R&B, now that I don't go
to those dark, beat-and-body-filled clubs as much as I used to.
They say you mellow in your old age. Well, I'm getting mellow
yellow really early. As for food, I'm Asian, specifically Filipino,
so I've probably eaten stuff you've never even heard of. Andrew
Zimmern's got nothing on me. My philosophy is, "Try Anything Once."
That's actually something I apply to everything in life. Makes my
stay on this planet more interesting.
The six things I could never do without
Diet coke, chocolate, heels, lip balm, a good book, and, oh yeah,
family! I'm not a firm believer of the Maslow heirarchy, as you can
see here. Given more leeway, this list can easily multiply ten
times over. I'm not a big minimalist fan, either.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
GOOD Thoughts: Good Karma, good dry martini, good book, good
adventure, good sale, chocolate ("good" chocolate would be
redundant).
On a typical Friday night I am
I am happily:
...sipping a cocktail with friends.

...immersed in solitude and a book.
...working. Yup, I did just say working.
