I am curious, fit, and independent.

My Self-Summary

I’ve lived in many places in the U.S and held several different kinds of jobs. I have two romances e-published, I’m a Washington Native Plant Steward, go to lots of theater and art museums and love to read. Fitness is a priority: I walk, lift weights and practice yoga. I like to swim and garden and want to get a working bike for this summer. I have a beat-up mountain bike, and I’m trying to decide if I can follow a maintenance manual well enough to get it running or if I should just give up and buy a new one. (I did accomplish this. Went biking with my eleven-year-old granddaughter.) I also want to travel. I went on a cruise to the Western Caribbean in early March with my sister. All the photos, except the ones with the shovel and in the Hoh Rain Forest, were taken on the cruise. Still, even though life is good, I’d also like the company of a man. Someone who is trustworthy and loving; someone to go places and do things with; someone for touching and sharing.

What I’m doing with my life

I was widowed last year, so I’m learning to enjoy living alone.

I’m really good at

Listening. I like to hear people’s stories, though I’m pretty good at talking, too.

The first things people usually notice about me

I don’t think people usually tell you what they first notice about you. I walk a lot and often play a little game of saying hello to everyone I meet. Most people, even those of a different age, culture, etc., smile back, so I’m hoping what they’re noticing is a warm smile.

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

Some of my favorite authors are Iris Murdock, Elizabeth George, Alexander McCall Smith, Alice Hoffman, Jonathan and Faye Kellerman—I could go on and on. I love books; picking a favorite is a kind of “Sophie’s Choice.”

Recent movies I’ve liked have been from the Oscar list: “Slumdog,” “Revolutionary Road,” “The Reader,” “The Wrestler” and “Vicky Christina Barcelona.”

Music: blues, jazz, classical and country—more or less in that order. I’m not really much of a music person. I’d like to be, but I’m actually not very interested, though I’m impressed with the way music can affect emotion.

My favorite foods have strong, spicy flavors, especially Thai, Indian, Italian and Mexican. For myself at home, I mostly cook vegetables, beans and grains and eat a lot of fruit. A semi health nut, though I can cook regular food, too.

I spend a lot of time thinking about

If there’s any hope of changing some of the world’s inequities. New developments in the medical, technology and science communities. Whatever book I’m reading, movie I’m watching or play I’m attending.

On a typical Friday night I am

Helping my Vietnamese neighbor practice English, playing Cubis or TextTwist, catching up on “Damages” on Hulu, reading.

The most private thing I’m willing to admit here

I have a perfect bellybutton.
