In all honesty, I probably wind up reading random chem or physics
papers, or "Do it Yourself" guides on how to make aerogel and super
capacitors and what not in your home garage, than anything else
these days. I suppose if you're looking to characterize my literary
tastes, the work of Kafka, Asimov, Orwell, Fritz Leiber, or Douglas
Adams, etc. etc. would suffice. Which is to say campy science
fiction for the most part.
In the realm of visual media, again, mostly campy science fiction
and or anything that has lots of fun historical dialogue.
Specifically, Game of Thrones, breaking bad, Tru Blood, and
Spartacus come to mind at the moment. I find certain animation
stuff like Jojo's Bizzare Adventure, Redline, and Hellsing, that
employ gratuitous use of spot-black visually appealing... basically
if it's pretty and or has an engaging plot (like most of Miyazaki's
work) I'm usually down to check it out.
As for Music, my taste is pretty eclectic; anything from metal, to
classical (well, I actually do dig opera tunes and some random
fugue and what not, but when it get's right down to it, I'm no
expert, it's just that I can't for the life of me seem to find the
same level of musical complexity anywhere else) to Blue Grass and
cheezy Pop. I have always had a particular affinity for Jazz
though. Dixie Land, Ragtime, Big Band, Bebop, what ever, if it's
Jazz there's probably going to be at least a few artists from that
era that I can dig. Basically anything brassy with a solid
baseline, so phunk is always good. There's a lot of Hip Hop and rap
that doesn't really do much of anything for me, but there are a
select few artists like J5, The Roots, A Tribe Called Quest,
Nujabes, Mos Def, Dilated Peoples, etc. that resonate well with my
