My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
I'm a math guy. I'm also a rationality guy (in the sense of the lesswrong, slate star codex, effective altruism memecluster) . Also maybe a philosophy guy. I like discussions and cuddles and talking at people about math and epistemology and not taking sides in current symbiotic meme pairs (aka. political discussions). I like to lift when it fits into my schedule.

I'm currently in a long-distance relationship. I met my boyfriend on here! What I'm looking for now is friends, or for someone I can cuddle with.
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
Learning; trying to increase my stats, especially int and wis. I plan on going into math research. Because math. (Have I signaled enough that I like math? 'Cause I like math.)

I'm also studying a bunch of epistemology and decision theory because questions like "how do we formalize reasoning under uncertainty about math?" and "how do you formalize one-boxers on Newcomb's problem?" need answering.

I am currently a math undergrad at UBC.
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
Spinning pens.
Imitating chickadees.
Taking jokes completely seriously and explaining why they are wrong.
Making dry personal summaries.
Self aware humour that is also very dry.
The first things people usually notice about me
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
My left eye. That's usually where you look first when you look at someone. It is also fairly big for an eye, but don't worry, so is the right one. It balances out.

A smirky quiet person that is somewhat tall, sits strangely and apparently speaks in a way that suggests that I think about what I am saying; that is, slowly.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food

I like math textbooks! Seriously!

I generally don't consume a whole lot of other media. I play the occasional PC game, and sometimes I read web serials like Methods of Rationality, Worm, and Ra. I find that most of such brainy sci-fi or rationalist fiction rarely, if ever, features gay characters, and I want my gay characters.

Also some anime and manga.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
Math! The abstract-nonsensier the better. So: category theory, categorical logic, homotopy theory, algebraic geometry, and that sort of stuff.

Foundations of math, and epistemology of math. Like, in principle, how do you write an automated theorem prover that does something more principled than brute forced search? What sort of foundations of mathematics do you need in order to do that? In what sense does mathematics give "absolute truths" if we can always be mistaken about our proofs? Addition in a human is non-deterministic and non-total.

I used to want to be a game designer, so I find myself talking about that with people who are interested.

I like to think about social issues, but those are contentious and not for posting on a public profile ;)

Cuddles. Lots and lots of cuddles forever.
On a typical Friday night I am
Netflix and takeout, or getting your party on — how do you let loose?
Reading math, calling my boyfriend, doing homework, reading blogs like Slate Star Codex (aka. the best blog on the internet), reading/watching stuff, dinner with family, playing SSBM of late.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
Probably some of my beliefs. In particular, preventing existential risks (things that might make humans extinct) is the most important thing that we can be doing, and that artificial general intelligence is a fairly good bet for solving that problem in general. That's one of my focuses when it comes to math and philosophy.
You should message me if
Offer a few tips to help matches win you over.
You should message me if the sentence "I talk way too much about math" doesn't make any sense to you. I have very few gay friends, and would like some more, especially people with shared interests.

I am also looking for people that I can be physical with. My boyfriends are both long distance, and my laptop is a poor cuddle partner. However, while I'd love to be attracted to whoever I choose, I'm not. I probably won't be attracted to you if you are overweight, or are significantly older than me.

You can also message me with an answer to this problem: Omega, the perfect predictor comes to you and puts before you two boxes, box A and box B. You have two choices. Either take just box A, or take both boxes. There is always $1k under box B. There is $1m under box A only if Omega predicts that you take only box A. What do you do? What if box A is made of glass?

Protip: put a question at the end of your message to keep the conversation going.

Hello and Salutations! Welcome to my profile. This is where I put the self aware meta humour.
