My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
I'm an Australian scientist living in Denver. I'm divorced (5 yrs) and have two of my three kids half time; the oldest is a robotics engineer in Australia.

I have a wide range of interests; natural history, travel (Australia, Canada, US, Italy, Germany, Fiji so far), movies, art, science, sports (doing more than watching). In general I like being active and outside, but I have to admit I do enjoy some indoor pursuits. I like to ski, surf, hike, dive (I've scuba dived with friends tanks and equipment but never held certification; want to get it in the next year) and soak in a hot spring afterwards. I've been told that I can carry a conversation on just about any topic. I enjoy good food, good company and fine wine. I have an almost child-like curiosity about the world and take every opportunity to learn more about it.

I like the ten questions from the show "The Actors Studio", and they are good conversation starters, so here they are with my answers:

1. What is your favorite word?
Wonder

2. What is your least favorite word?
Starvation.
There is no reason that anyone in the modern world should be starving

3. What turns you on?
Creativity

4. What turns you off?
Willful ignorance.
There is no excuse for believing in a flat earth, a literal, biblical version of creation, or perpetual motion machines, other than a desire to be ignorant of the facts.

5. What sound or noise do you love?
The sound of a child laughing

6. What sound or noise do you hate?
The sound of a child in pain

7. What is your favorite curse word?
Fuck!

8. What profession other than your own would you like to attempt?
Fine Printing.
Printing was the greatest invention in the last thousand years

9. What profession would you not like to do?
Assembly line worker
Anything that requires mindless repetition, like process work. Some find it rewarding but it's not for me

10. If Heaven exists, what would you like to hear God say when you arrive at the Pearly Gates?
That was a helluva ride!
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
I'm doing research into how the heart works and how it fails when it is damaged. I'm also raising two very intelligent rambunctious kids and watching a third make me proud of him as an engineer.

I'm enjoying my time in Colorado, going on nature hikes with my kids, going to pubs/bars and meeting new people when I don't have them and looking for new ways to have a good time.
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
Listening, experimenting, science, electronics, sex :)

I'm good at:
Cooking, writing, statistics, programming, handyman stuff (I was an apprentice to a electrician/scale mechanic when I was younger, so I know my way around industrial workshops and have a home workshop to boot). Communication - a recent return to form allows me to put this here. I can be a bit of a lone wolf at times, seeking out alone time when hurt or injured, but normally I'm a good listener and talker with those close to me.

Fair at:
housecleaning, filing

Music: Love a wide range of music. Cold Chisel (Australian band), Black Sorrows, Grace Knight, Santana, Dave Mathews band, Mozart, Georges De la Rue, Sinead O'Connor, Nickelback, Pink Martini, Piaf and many more. Not so keen on hip-hop or country.

Food: Thai, Indian, Middle Eastern, Vietnamese, Spanish, Italian, Japanese (not just sushi). Home cooked meals. I really enjoy cooking. I'm just learning but people seem to enjoy my food. I've cooked dishes in each of these styles that people have enjoyed.
The six things I could never do without
Think outside the box. Sometimes the little things can say a lot.
Not in any particular order except for numbers 1 and 2

1. My kids
2. Great love
3. Books
4. Friends
5. Great Sex
6. Family
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
My next experiment.
On a typical Friday night I am
Netflix and takeout, or getting your party on — how do you let loose?
Either with my kids, which may involve soccer practice, going for a bike ride or if the weather's bad, watching a movie with them. If I don't have them, I may be in the lab figuring out how the world works, or at the pub, solving the worlds problems over a few beers, or at home kicking back and having a few cold ones with friends.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
I ran a leather nightclub.
