I’d like to first point that there is a sarcasm/irony punctuation mark (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Irony_punctuation); I encourage all to use this readily (not just the punctuation).
I love a good debate (assuming you are correct in anything is one of the most dangerous fallacies) and intellectualism is easily one of the best ways to my heart.
I love history (I was the kid who wound up doing more than just the readings for that night for Social Studies because I just couldn't put the text book down). I adore the 1920s and have been cultivating a particular interest in German history.
I tend to be shy. This is sometimes mistaken for being snobbish, rude, or disliking you. That's not the case! I kinda just need to be probed out of my shell. Sometimes time or you doing something first is all I need to unlock me out of my hesitance that I've ingrained in myself since being the wallflower back in Middle School.
That said, I'll usually open up about anything, should you just ask. The phrase that I usually use is that I'm a unlocked, closed Book – you just have to open me.
I'm a secularist; my brother recently became, and most of my friends have always been, atheists or sceptics. I'm a Catholic; altar-server since middle school. I'm a humanist; I feel this comes from both of the previous. I'm Queer; all of these (and the thoughts and ideas which stem from them) are always present to the point of being unnoticable (in the background, if you will) because they are so thoroughly engrained in all of who I am.
Quite possibly the definition of my life: http://i46.tinypic.com/11gk7c2.jpg.
I tend to be a romantic and love sappy gestures of emotion and devotion, I will admit. I'm also kinda big on surprises. Big gestures (and borderline overkill - purely for the irony) are never above me.
I've had (noticable) clinical depression since around the start of high school, if not earlier. It raises problems like not really knowing how to explain why you literally (on your own) could not make it out of bed that day. It also makes my favorite Far Side comic this one: http://www.franklycurious.com/index.php?itemid=840 (for the record, Far Side is my favorite comic strip, though early Peanuts gives it a run; I also routinely assume that everyone has heard of, and loves, Calvin and Hobbes).
And, on that note, I kinda have a macabre sense of humor. In some parts and on some level, The Exorcist is a really funny film.
I graduated college with majors in Women's, Gender, and Sexuality Studies; Computer Science; and English. Admittedly, the Comp. Sci. major was only because they didn't have a graphic design major, though I've fallen quite in love with it (I recently obtained the ability to program in C++ and Python on my computer; very exciting). The WGSS major fit well with my concern with social justice and that I probably should have considered History as a major more strongly (though I probably would have still chosen WGSS). And I knew I would be an English major since middle school.
I firmly believe that 90s children entertainment is some of the best done entertainment in just about any category.
The smell of rain or a cloudy, gray-sky day (lightly windy) with slight drizzling may be one of my favorite things ever.
Band geek since intermediate school (a clarie [clarinet], thank you very much). Trying to start a marching/scatter band up north; if you would like to help out in this endeavor: https://www.facebook.com/ScatterMarchingBandOfLakeCountyIllinois.
Why be normal when you can be ridiculous?
I consider myself an optimistic realist; often like individuals, think people stupid, and idealize humanity; and I still don't think I'm satisfied with it all.
